@harrydaniyan @chaplinez70 The point is that countries are taking steps to alleviate the direct effects on local consumers and citizens. They are not throwing up their hands in surrender. The effects of the war are global but government should be responsive to help her citizens

@majorbode @chaplinez70 Can you please name these "Serious Nations" and the "cushioning measures" they have put in to protect their people, Sir? Your profile says you're a PhD holder & a Lecturer, so I ascribe intelligence to you. I await your response ASAP, Doc. I shouldn't wait forever, no? 😊

@harrydaniyan @chaplinez70 Japan, South Korea and Australia have introduced cap on the pump prices to protect the consumers. Egypt and Ethiopia have capped the local prices of staples. Countries with alternative energy sources like Brazil, China etc have driven up consumption vouchers for consumers

@harrydaniyan @chaplinez70 Thank you for asking intelligently. Simple search and monitoring global news revealed that countries like Spain which is working on modalities to reduce tax on fuel and electricity, and grant subsidies to sectors of the economy most affected. Greece is offering subsidy up to 30%

Why are you so narrow minded to think it’s about defending anybody? I have stated a fact. You don’t have to like or accept it. I will defend my country no matter whose ox is gored. I have no affiliations with any politician whether you believe it or not doesn’t really bother me.

@chaplinez70 Charles, don't defend the indefensible. Yes, the world is feeling the effects of the war, but, serious nations have put in cushioning measures to protect their people. As an oil producing country, there's no palliative measure for Nigerians. That is the face of poor governance

@chaplinez70 I hope you are not becoming what you often condemn on this app. You don't have to be caustic in engaging in a simple conversation on situation affecting you and I. I've been civil with you all along

@chaplinez70 How did you come to the conclusion that you were defending any politician from what I wrote? Your initial post was erroneously painting the picture that this was a situation that couldn't be helped in anyway and I pointed out to you what some countries are doing on amelioration

Governors travelled to UK to welcome Tinubu into the UK, then traveled back to Nigeria to welcome Tinubu back to Nigeria If you read it with sane eyes, you will think this is fake news but this is the reality of things under this APC regime

@SavvyRinu Everything to this lot is about politics. He has spoken a lot without saying anything. He failed a simple test of accountability. What is the cause of this blackout? What is being done? No answers. It's all about self praise and coming elections. We can't move far with these ones

@Ll3ttee This is what you get when you surround a 200 IQ player with forwards below 20 IQ. That movement was meant to draw the CBs towards himself and suck in the LB, but where was our winger to receive the ball?

If I was Liam Rosenior I will bench Enzo Fernandez if he actually made those statements. The problem that man has is that he wants to please everyone. Enzo Fernandez doesn’t deserve to play for us ever again. When he leaves, he should be treated like a traitor, a rat!

@ItsOnlyIfe @kenkenlewu Not everything is wokeness idiocy. In this part of the world, the man's family go to seek a daughter in marriage for their son. That is nonnegotiable. That's who we are. When you forget who you are, you become irrelevant. If you value the family, you will visit them

I’m not getting what the issue is cos when it was his family that would do the traveling you were fine with it… Now the tables have switched and they’re even offering compensation for the stress which your family wouldn’t have provided for them if they had travelled. But it’s his family that has the issue?

His mother said that their friends and dignitaries couldn’t travel from Lagos to Benin. So, she asked me to tell my father that they would pay “family money,” so that my family and relatives could come to Lagos for the traditional wedding, the main wedding, and everything. Then I asked my ex, “Did you hear what your mother said?” He replied, “Yes. You know, all these lawyers and judges don’t like traveling like that. We will arrange comfortable accommodations for your family, and my parents are planning to compensate your dad with ₦20 million.” That was the end! No one has ever insulted my family the way this woman did.

@iamayolawal What is wrong with recovering from these ghost entities all they have 'stolen from the poor ' if there's any iota of sincerity in all these? How have the other gaping holes of public wealth conduits and leakages been plugged? What is the public expenditure profile like now?

There is hardly a weaker argument for petrol subsidy removal than the claim that “it did not help the poor.” It is a remarkably lazy refrain, repeated despite overwhelming evidence that poverty and cost-of-living pressures have worsened for poor people since the subsidy’s removal. Yes, billions were stolen under the subsidy regime, just as billions were squandered on refinery turnaround maintenance. The more serious question, rarely asked, is who has been prosecuted, and how much of the stolen funds has actually been recovered? The failure to enforce accountability is not an argument for policy abandonment, it is an indictment of governance. The article also rests on a faulty premise when it describes Nigerians as belonging to “the most prosperous economy in West Africa by any macro measure.” By GDP per capita (PPP), Nigeria is NOT the regional outlier it is often assumed to be. Of the fifteen West African countries, seven rank ahead of Nigeria, two are roughly comparable, and Nigeria only marginally outperforms the remaining six.

@iamayolawal Thank you for this. My position too has always been, since fuel subsidy was removed, how has it benefited the poor it was meant to help? What has become of the so-called saboteurs and rich beneficiaries of the subsidy regime? How many of them have gone bankrupt?
