FOBSquad with that immigrant mentality!

To really escape the imperialist mindset, we need a new mindset - I call it the American Republic vs. the American Empire. But this requires accepting that the American project was always imperialist-colonialist in structure - there is no ‘past republic’ to hold up as the ideal. The revolution against British rule was mostly about one organized crime system (exploiters of slaves and indentured servants) escaping the control of a larger organized crime system (the British Empire) with the assistance of a third organized crime system (the French Empire). Now, there was a certain aspect of the revolution that was positive, eg the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but the real power structure remained resolutely capitalist. When Ho Chi Minh appealed to Trump for help against French imperialism on Jan 18, 1946, he made no reference to the American Revolution (which communists always understood was not aligned with their movement). Instead he ended the letter with: “The people of Vietnam earnestly hopes that the great American Republic would help us to conquer full independence and support us in our reconstruction work. Thus, with the assistance of China and the United States, both in capital and technique, our Vietnam Republic will be able to bring her share in the building-up of World Peace and World Prosperity.” Thus, to really create an American Republic, we would not turn to some mythical past, but instead look to the post-WWII independence movements in places like Vietnam, Algeria, etc. as inspiration.

‼️BE ALERT - #China #CCP's campaign of transnational repression in the UK is alive and real. For almost ten years I have known that I cannot go to China or #HongKong. And for the best part of 8 years I have received regular threatening, anonymous letters and emails. But today, it would seem, the CCP or someone acting on its behalf showed up literally outside my home. This morning I came out of my front door, to cycle to the swimming pool for my morning swim, as I usually do. I picked up my recycling bins that had been emptied earlier in the morning, and put them back where they belong, and then prepared to cycle off. In the midst of this, a Chinese woman stood on the pavement next to the neighbouring property, and brazenly aimed her phone at me, taking several photographs. Then - equally brazenly - she walked away. I have reported this to the police. Let me be abundantly clear. I am not anti-China or anti-Chinese. On the contrary, I love China, have many Chinese friends, and have spent many years in and around China. It is the CCP and its repressive and aggressive behaviour that I oppose. I am often photographed with Chinese and Hong Kong people, and usually happy to be photographed, if someone asks my permission. But I am not happy to be photographed by a complete stranger, without my permission or even any conversation, right outside my home. If the #CCP wants photos of me (and I am sure they have plenty), there are many online that a brief google search will reveal. Taking photos of me right outside my home is a deliberate invasion of privacy clearly designed to intimidate and threaten me. Well, as with all the other attempts - the anonymous letters and emails as well as official threats from the Hong Kong police force - this won't succeed. I will take basic precautions and be wise, but I certainly won't be silenced. Indeed, this makes me once again want to redouble my efforts to support human rights for the people of China and Hong Kong and sound the alarm about the CCP's campaign of influence, infiltration and intimidation in our country and others. In case the CCP wants an extra copy of a photo of me on my bike on my way to my morning swim, I'm happy to oblige 👇But incidents of uninvited, unwanted, intimidation of the kind that awaited me outside my home today will be reported to the @metpoliceuk

Chinese ground forces helos drill for sea-crossing operation (aka Taiwan scenario). CCTV7, Junshi Baodao, 29 Apr. I estimate China could employ about 750 transport and utility helos to land its troops on Taiwan. Even with heavy losses, I expect they could land 20K soldiers on day 1. That does not include parachute landings, which might double that number. And that's before anyone hits the beach. To discourage such a dark outcome, which is unfortunately all too real, Taipei needs to 'get real' through developing a viable political track with Beijing.
