@RorySmith I don’t watch MotD to consume football as such - I watch it for the high-level analysis that I don’t necessarily understand or notice as a non football playing fan. If I just wanted highlights, I’d watch elsewhere. Same reason I listen to footballing podcasts - for the analysis.

This is a good story and interesting in lots of ways but striking that Match of the Day, on actual TV, gets almost 7m viewers across a weekend. That’s more than 10% of the (British) population. It’s presumably still how the vast majority of fans consume football.

@Dave9492 @MsiDouglas I’m not disagreeing with you - just pointing out that Newcastle’s statement (and Mark’s following tweet that I was initially replying to) stated that he was never told he could be sold, and I don’t believe that’s the “broken promises” Isak is referring to.

@mal_hall @MsiDouglas Mitchell felt we shouldn’t offer a contract improvement mid-season whilst under PSR constraints. It was likely suggested an improvement would be offered if we qualified for UCL, given the revenue increase from that. We then offered a significant increase in salary, Isak said no.

@Dave9492 @MsiDouglas Only after the Liverpool interest materialised? And once Paul Mitchell had left, who allegedly refused to honour Staveley’s offer. All this is hearsay, of course - but Isak’s statement never suggests he was told he could leave.

The staging is contemporary and Brechtian, only the lights and sound make it feel epic. And as with Sunset we watch it in two times simultaneously: the modern telling and the period story. It’ll never be better sung or played. It’s a mighty staging of a masterwork. 3/3
