@LargeHagmar @cavalierposting uh do you need me write it out in crayon? if she's part black, then presenting herself as black isn't that bad. otoh, there's no justification for any man to present as a woman. stop being a fucking obtuse retard and use your goddamn brain.

@malgorium @cavalierposting Dude who thinks blackface is fine but presenting yourself outside of gender norms is crazy is an interesting character to see on this app. If bolsonaro is part black then why would she have to paint herself to make her case, she’s already black in the scenario you made up dumbass

No one wants to work anymore because there is no reward. Half of us are living paycheck to paycheck. No saving for retirement. No saving for a house. Straight up two paychecks away from living on the street.

@Homeschool_LLC I'm a math teacher. Frankly I don't give a shit about AI. All my tests/assessments are in-class, on paper, no devices. It becomes very obvious, very quickly who's doing their own work and who isn't.

@Be_like_yankee @luxemiaa Sure, you want to gamble, go ahead and gamble. But just like most gambles, don't expect it to turn out great. And you better damn sure not feel entitled to it if things don't go your way.

@luxemiaa The family’s perspective: Paying for seat selection for 8 people can be very expensive, especially on budget airlines. Some families gamble on being able to swap once onboard because airlines sometimes accommodate them informally.

This woman on Instagram shared: I’m at the airport and there’s a family of 8 people on my flight with small children, I just overheard the dad say, “All of our seats are all over the place, no one is close to each other because I didn’t want to pay extra for assigned seats. We’ll switch around when we get on the plane.” Suffice it to say, I hate them....

One thing that stood out to me from the video clips we watched last week in the @TeachLikeAChamp workshop was the high-level vocabulary the teachers used with students. Not just the vocabulary words being explicitly taught, but the words they used as part of their instruction and discussion. Because the teachers didn’t “dumb down” their speech, their students were immersed in the most wonderful and natural vocabulary-rich environments. Hearing the students mimic the teachers in their comments and questions was beautiful.

@BitcoinTeacher_ What really breaks my heart is that kids like these WANT to go to school. They WANT to learn. But then you have the 5+ kids in every fucking class whose sole motivation is to bring everyone down and make sure no learning gets done, and the good kids are basically taken hostage.

@Ed_Realist @tomloveless99 uh... holy fuck if you're stupid enough to think there aren't actual learning objectives and standards for every class, then there's no point even continuing this conversation - you're beyond help.

You did, right here: "So essentially the solution when a kid is way behind is to lower standards." "There are standards for any class." hahahahaha. Who told you that? "Your stance is that if a kid is behind, they should only have to learn X, Y instead." Wrong. Although that's what happens now because despite your faithe otherwise, there aren't standards for any class.

SFUSD has it backwards. It makes sense to offer struggling students a "double dose" of math--to help them catch up. But to double dose advanced students, with one of the math classes below their level of math, makes no sense.

@Ed_Realist @tomloveless99 who said all students learn equally? what are you even talking about? There are standards for any class. In Algebra 1, you have to learn X, Y, Z. Your stance is that if a kid is behind, they should only have to learn X, Y instead. Those are lower standards.

I'm sorry, are we pretending that all students can learn equally? What happens if they still don't learn is that they've learned how to keep plugging away. Or maybe just gotten up and come to school every day. "double dose of algebra", the treatment in question, has been around since the 90s. there's no "what's happening in public schools around the country". It's been happening for decades, during all the time that reformers said educaiton was good, when they said it was bad, and today. Public education isn't swirling down the toilet. It is what it is.

@flowidealism When students ask me, 'what's the point of learning all this? AI can do it for me', I just ask them, 'ok, then in that case, who would ever hire you when they can just hire AI instead? What value do you offer that a computer couldn't do?'

@wartime675 @The_Money_Buddy Did I say that? To deprive yourself of all luxuries? The point is to be intentional about ALL your spending. Go buy that $5 coffee if it truly makes you happy and adds value to your life. Don't buy it if that's just your habit and you do it every day.

@malgorium @The_Money_Buddy Are we really meant to spend our entire lives not buying things we enjoy so we can have money when we’re well middle aged and can’t do the same things we can at 25?

If you invest in the S&P 500 at 8% Rule of 72 says: Your money doubles every 9 years. So: $10k → $20k → $40k → $80k → $160k Time turns small into big.

@Ed_Realist @tomloveless99 So essentially the solution when a kid is way behind is to lower standards. And what if they still don't learn or even give a shit enough to learn? This is what's happening in public schools across the country, and why public education is swirling down the toilet.

Stop believing they can "catch up". There's no such thing as "1 grade level behind", really. It just means they aren't at the same ability level as an average student their age. Slow down math instruction, give them less to learn and give them practical applications so they have a better grasp on what they do learn.

@ennui365 Tell me, what sort of unattainable advantages did Jeff Bezos have growing up? He was born to two parents, who were both teenagers. His dad was an alcoholic, and his parents divorced when he was a toddler. And now he's a billionaire. Isn't that the literal American Dream?

THIS IS WILD… Passenger says United denied a simple request that could literally save their life. Severe peanut allergy. One exposure = possible fatal reaction. All they asked for? A small buffer zone on the plane. Instead… they were told to basically deal with it and “email the company.” On a packed flight where people are eating inches away… That’s not a minor issue. That’s life or death. Do airlines have a responsibility here… or is this asking too much? ⬇️ 🇺🇸

@D_Preacher_1 The interesting question math-wise is if you think most of math is invented, or discovered. I'm definitely in the latter camp, but I can see the arguments for the former.

Math isn’t something people “believe” in the way religion is. Math is a system we can test, verify, and use to predict real-world outcomes consistently, whether you were taught it as a child or not. 2 + 2 = 4 doesn’t depend on culture, faith, or upbringing. It works the same in Lagos, Tokyo, or anywhere else. If it didn’t, engineering, technology, and science would collapse instantly. God, on the other hand, is a matter of faith. Different cultures believe in different gods, and those beliefs often come from upbringing, not universal proof. So no, it’s not the same. One is demonstrable and repeatable. The other is belief-based.
Luke Dashjr@LukeDashjr

@D_Preacher_1 Do people believe in math because they found evidence, or because they were taught to believe as children? Yes, it's the same. God's existence is the most well-proven fact ever.

It's not about whether we can afford toys for our kids or new clothes. We're putting all that on credit cards. Our wages have literally priced us out of buying homes, getting good healthcare, hiring childcare. Trickle-down has given billionaires all our money. Tax the rich.
