You will be forgiven for thinking this was a religious ceremony (Gamo) but these are women mobilised by Imam Fatty to fight for the FGM bill to be repealed. This same imam said he will marry off their girls as young as 13years old, preventing them from completing their education

Seeing & hearing men debate to what extend women & girls bodies should be mutilate is really sad. At the same time these men continue to trivialise our pains and suffering from #FGM. To end #FGM we must end all discriminations against women & promote women in decision making

We have heard or witnessed little girls dying after FGM, most bled to death. They would excuse it that witches killed them. Most unfortunate is that a poor woman in the community will be accused of being the witch and stigmatised. This practice is barbaric n backwards. #EndFGM

The bill has been sent to committee and it means that #FGM is still illegal in The Gambia.
