My wife did something last weekend that made me fall more in love with her. We went to a wedding, great vibe, open bar, the whole thing. But I knew my ex would be there. Our breakup split our entire friend group down the middle, and I’ve spent years wishing we could all just be in the same room again like normal people. We we got to the wedding, I was nervous. A few years back, my wife and I ran into her ex at a wedding and I didn’t behave well at all, and I’ve regretted how I acted ever since. My wife knows this. We’ve talked about it more than once. So when I spotted my ex sitting alone at a table, I took a breath and walked over, with my wife right beside me. We hugged. I introduced them. And they just started talking. Like normal people. We caught up, laughed about old times, and made fun of the groom, who was a mutual friend of ours. The rest of the night felt exactly how I had always hoped it would just friends in a room together. We even took a photo, all three of us. My wife posted it on social media without hesitation. Our friends couldn’t believe it. On the drive home, I just kept looking at her. This woman handled a situation I had completely fumbled when the roles were reversed. She didn’t hold it over me. Didn’t make a single joke about it. She just showed up and was exactly who she always is. I got home and sat with that feeling for days. I’m writing this now with flowers and chocolate waiting for her to walk through the door. She’s everything I’ve ever wanted and somehow, I keep finding new reasons why. Have you ever watched your partner handle something so gracefully that it made you fall for them all over again?
