Police have arrested a male suspect in Moloto near KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, for allegedly conspiring with others to kidnap his own friend over a Road Accident Fund (RAF) payout. According to police, the victim had recently received a lump sum payment from the Road Accident Fund when the suspects allegedly targeted him. He was reportedly kidnapped and forced to transfer money into the suspects’ bank accounts. Investigations revealed that the victim’s friend was allegedly involved in the plot. Police were able to track communication between the friend and other suspects through cellphone records, leading to his arrest. The victim has since been safely rescued, while police continue searching for other suspects believed to be part of the kidnapping. Authorities have warned members of the public, especially RAF beneficiaries, to be cautious about sharing information regarding large payouts, as this may make them targets for criminals. Investigations are ongoing.
