I was pissed yesterday when I got home and saw my elder bro's wife in the kitchen. She explained that she had just arrived that night herself, and did not prepare dinner. This morning, I woke up early enough and openly said she wasn't entering the kitchen. If my siblings couldn't cook alone, then there was no need to have breakfast. She insisted that my siblings couldn't make something as complicated as fried and jollof rice. And insisted she was going to cook. Well—her choice. Anyways, I made it clear that if my siblings couldn't make the meal themselves the next year, they should order out. It's not by force to cook. Then the anticipated question followed from everyone: Are you saying your wife will not cook if she visits. Lol, what sort of obvious question is that one? She's your guest as far as your kitchen is concerned. If she wants to show she's responsible, that's on her but not in your kitchen, loves. I know many will not agree with me but I think it's annoying you'd come spend time with your in-laws, and there's this mental pressure to do menial tasks. I mean I wouldn't wash my father-in-law's car with all due respect. Never washed a car growing up. It was always driven to the car wash, so I wouldn't come and prove to your parent that I'm responsible by washing their car. If it's your own interest or thing, go ahead by all means but by default, for the few days of hanging with your in-laws at weddings, festive seasons, etc., you've got not business in their kitchen or doing menial tasks about.
