Let me try to explain Nick Land: 1) Intelligence proliferates because it works. It wins. Not just intelligence of individuals, but of systems. 2) Capitalism, technology, and their fusion are an intelligent system. More intelligent than any person. 3) Western Europeans, in addition to being intelligent, have dispositions that allow the techno-capital machine to run. 4) Ascendence of the techno-capital machine is inevitable. Only societies that embrace it will survive. 5) Western European culture is the most compatible with techno-capital acceleration, making it poised for dominance. 6) Smart individuals, Jewish, Asian, or other, have contributions that make to the machine. A system that can select for and integrate them will outcompete one that doesn't. This should also explain why Land doesn't like the Groypers.

President Trump’s energy agenda has resulted in oil and gas production reaching the highest levels ever recorded. To enable oil to keep flowing into the global market, the Treasury Department is issuing a temporary 30-day waiver to allow Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil. This deliberately short-term measure will not provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government as it only authorizes transactions involving oil already stranded at sea. India is an essential partner of the United States, and we fully anticipate that New Delhi will ramp up purchases of U.S. oil. This stop-gap measure will alleviate pressure caused by Iran’s attempt to take global energy hostage.

@McFaul Did you read what you just wrote? Funding terrorism across the ME, building a nuclear program, mass producing missiles and drones, dragging out negotiations for decades, chanting death to America, arming Russia. You need them to lay out the plan on TikTok live to believe it?

Deterrence usually works. We seem to have forgotten this basic fact of world history and American history. There is no credible evidence whatsoever that the Iranian theocrats were planning to attack the US tomorrow or a decade from now.

Watching Iran, and its diaspora, I can’t help but have incredible respect for the Chinese people. The CCP/CPC repeatedly did insane things (impacting people including the fathers of Xi Jinping and the founder of Huawei, to different extents). But the populace understood that a breakdown in state authority, and an intervention by foreign powers, would be a disaster for the country (obviously there are many references to this in Chinese history and literature). All this in a culture with an ancient right of rebellion when things go wrong. Far older than anything in the Western tradition (Locke, for instance). As a country and a people they deserve all the success and prosperity the 21st century now appears to be bestowing on them. Rather than balkanise they’ve attained the status of global power.

@iamgingertrash @zerohedge Why do you not think the US and Israel cannot do a Venezuela on Iran? Doesn’t this calculus only play out for China if this conflict is prolonged? Each authoritarian state, outside of China, appears weaker and more of a house of cards year by year. Maybe I’m missing something.

@zerohedge No, chine wants Iran to be drawn into a conflict with the U.S. so they can move on Taiwan in 27’ It has a high ROI for the regime to waste U.S. war capacity

@Akuma73x @iamgingertrash Many “smart” people still think America is a democracy and can’t see it for what is - a decentralized, bureaucratic oligarchy. Dario actually seems to know this, which is why he’s worried laws won’t really govern Claude usage. But you can’t shield a child from the real world.

@manfredmacxx @iamgingertrash Yet he needs to clear his delusions about democracy in the US when it comes to military decisions. Which are decided by unelected officials. "Democracies must not use surveillance"... I guess he has much to learn from Snowden.

@tenobrus IMO, the hivemind increasingly projecting onto AI that it will go bad is actually increasing the odds AI will go bad more than the technology itself. Prayer would be more useful.

@kelxyz_ btc's past is certainly impressive. one concern I see moving forward is the opportunity cost of not owning direct beneficiaries of a slow or fast AI takeoff may just be too high. better money is a great thing, but does it outperform AGI economically? i'd say no

Bitcoin didn’t fail as an inflation hedge or a Gold comp Bitcoin succeeded faster than most people could process. It’s an asset that moves at the speed of information. It frontruns every macro move. Did bitcoin fail as an inflation hedge when inflation became official in 2022? No. The prescient thinkers that move capital thought money printing would create inflation in 2020. Btc was 5k, it hit 69k before Biden n them even admitted the inflation was real. Did it fail as a debasement hedge? Or a derisking vs dollars trade? No. The thinkers that move capital thought the seizure of Russian treasury assets in 2022 would lead to declining dollar trust the nanosecond it happened in 2022. Btc was 16k. Gold was 2k. By 2025 Btc ran so hard the forgotten crypt kids were debating if 8 figures was enough to retire. 16k to 120k. Yet they say Btc failed as a debasement hedge. It rebased up $1,000,000,000,000 in dollar terms before 99% of these fintwit types ever added Silver to their Fidelity watchlists. “Jusqu’ici tout va bien” The opposition is French-posting DANGEROUSLY close to the bottom.
