SA imports of lithium-ion #batteries reached $1.75bn in 2023, more than x2 the 2022 numbers ($0.73bn). At an average of $139/kWh, that's about 12.5GWh (or about 3.8-5.0GW of capacity). Local manufacturing (based on imported cells) is however booming and should be supported.
