@teachrobotslove Something so devastating about clicking "follow" and seeing the "subscribe" button. This is what you are though.

Grind culture is really just trying to approximate genius with sheer volume of effort, but I've found in most areas of my life I achieve better results if I slow down, take my time, get some rest, and act with more conscientious and deliberate motions. This is difficult for a productive person, because it can feel like being lazy, but quality output is a complicated mechanism that requires more than just effort.
I probably only write two to three times a week, and only when I feel like it, but I tend to keep more of what I write because it's more planned and deliberate, and thus write "faster" than I did when I stuck to a rigorous schedule.
Same with exercise. I was forced to slow down after I had a child, and was no longer busting my ass 5-6x a week in the gym and hitting the stairmaster for hours. I dropped down to 3x a week in the gym, stopped turning the weights into a cardio session, and stuck to small sessions of Zone 2 cardio or walking. As a result I noticed my muscles actually grew faster, I leaned out more, and I was less puffy, inflamed, and hungry from the lack of rest.

@clockstiqqun Why "except food and housing"? Are you mental?
English

@jwdwerner I think it should be rephrased to “Trump thinks he’s fighting…” There’s nothing necessary about the fights he’s been waging to managing neoliberal regime he inherited.
English

@manquemonk @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 Children of Men is borderline Sci-Fi, that's not an apt comparison at all.
English

Part of the problem with the OBAA discourse on here is that people will watch this scene and think it’s PTA writing what he thinks revolutionaries sound like as opposed to just trying to make the French 75 sound like how every Weather Underground knockoff talked.
Bojack Fan Account@Cam_Unstoppable
If Coogler made it, no bullshit like this would be included
English

@jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 Why make that subtle? I would love for that interpretation to be true, but many other parts of the film would be different if it were the case the South had won the Civil War.
English

@manquemonk @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 It’s also kinda set in an alternate universe wherein Santa Claus is a religious figure worshipped by white nationalists
English

@Five9Shaq @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 Damn straight I am. PTA didn't understand the material he was adapting.
English

@manquemonk @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 You know that you can stretch and bend adaptations to do what you want right? So no it didn’t fail anything as it’s pretty clear that it wasn’t supposed to be that. You’re just mad that it didn’t do what you specifically wanted it to. Why don’t you write the movie next time.
English

@spaghetti @Five9Shaq @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 It does attempt historical specificity with contemporary issues around ICE and immigration.
English

@manquemonk @Five9Shaq @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 Not really. Maybe if the movie *attempted* historical specificity, the critique would be more salient
English

@Five9Shaq @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 My conclusion is that the film fails on its own terms -- PTA after all thanked Pynchon for the film's "adaption" in his Oscar speech -- and we await an adaptation from a filmmaker with a cannier sensibility for Pynchon.
English

@manquemonk @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 Well there’s a reason he changed quite a bit, including this! It’s not a direct line by line adaptation. So I don’t think your critique is fair game. Now what.
English

@Five9Shaq @jdoe5225 @PanasonicDX4500 Well the novel PTA adapted -- to which he paid homage in the first sentence of his acceptance speech -- is highly attuned to historical specificity. So I think my critique is fair game.
English

@awoodustin Were you at a later one? I just heard there were an unusually large number of test screenings for it. I'd actually be curious to know how much it changed from test to test.
English

@manquemonk Except I was at the first test screening and it’s 99% the same movie
English

One of the few notes I gave at my test screening was for them not to cut this scene. I was convinced it was gonna weird everyone out but I was determined to make sure the rest of the world would see this

This won over sinners?????
English

@_motherslug @bigrackspart7 The original bit would’ve been so grand though. And imagine if he actually understood Pynchon humor and gave us that bonkers scene on the plane!
English

I mentioned this when I first saw it but PTA did a magic trick of adaptation when he transformed an iridescent plastic business card into this strange little device in the film.

Ana@_motherslug
Since PTA won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, I wanted to draw attention to the Sister Rochelle scene for two reasons: she is the only character whose Pynchonian name PTA retained & these 2 minutes contain what I believe to be the closest verbatim dialogue from the novel.
English

@books_rum There are known “guidelines” in place in Israel right now. Don’t be a dumb goy.
English

Sounds like he’s talking about Covid in this video. Get out and get some air, stick to the guidelines etc
Eye on Palestine@EyeonPalestine
Prime Minister of the occupation Benjamin Netanyahu published a video on his X account from one of the parks in Jerusalem, accompanied by the phrase: “Sticking to the guidelines and winning together,”
