It is interesting to be witnessing, in one's lifetime, a total cultural decadence of the place one was born into. Tonight, a couple of Chinese friends went ecstatic about the Yugoslav World War 2 movies that were popular in China in the 1980s. If it were the only such case, I would take it as an oddity. But the fact of incredible music, literary and film exuberance of the last two decades of Yugoslavia contrasted with nothingness of today is hard to ignore.
