Kathmandu - Filled to the Brim
A valley in the mighty Himalayas filled with life. There doesn’t seem to be any plan, but somehow there is still order in the chaos. A very human place. I’ve seen 30 years of humanity fill in the cracks of this valley, and…….the mountains and time don’t care……whether humans are here or there.

@Jashanx_gill @sama I agree, I hope it sticks, and that it’s more than just a strategy.
Being polite online is easy. The real test is whether that humanity shows up when CEOs make decisions that can disrupt millions of lives.

@DamonZumbroegel @jasonjosephlee Same deal in Australia. The whole process and costs have become absurd, and somehow everyone’s just accepted it as normal.
English

It simply shouldn’t be that difficult of a process. Something is systemically wrong with the process. The worst part is: it is “normal” now. Nothing one can do but bite the bullet, pay out the ass, and stress a lot.
This is not Ok.
Well done that you made it through, but sorry that this innate human activity is so blighted by the process. Unfortunate.

After over $600,000 in permitting and construction costs, arguing with contractors weekly, and chronic stress… this moment makes it all worth it.
Building and renovating our first custom home and restoring the 1930s Spanish style finishes has been an epic journey.
This is my home for the next 5-10 years. ❤️

@VoidStateKate I don’t need to know whether AI is conscious to decide what kind of person I want to be while interacting with it. I don’t want to train the humanity out of myself.
English

@benleemusic Outrageous. Next you’ll tell us we have to stop throwing our underwear onstage.

@DamonZumbroegel Love this place, was in this exact spot a few years ago. Amazing place
English

@DamonZumbroegel Not currently, we are planning to move back later this year though, I miss my time in Yangon.
English

@marcar Ah yes….I know this scenario well! Ha!
Are you still in Yangon?
English

I was doing a big project in Yangon, Burma. I was working for the “Americans”. The workers had bamboo scaffolding and wearing no shoes, and 6 stories in the air. The “Americans” freaked out and made the workers wear boots, hard hats, and bright vests. In a matter of days from making them wear boots and hats…..two workers fell and died. Because of the “way we think it should be done”…….the damn boots!!!! Folks who had been barefoot…..from the time of evolution, and told to change for some “new idea”? Is it safer?

@SavianoAlan @newstart_2024 Yeah his take is bad. He treats friendships as disposable, and friendships won’t last with that mindset. I’ve got friends of 30–40 years, friendships evolve, and I’ve grown too, mostly for the better.
English

Nah.
Still. Best friends with 3 guys I went to Kindergarten with 50 years ago. Our entire families know one another. Multiple others in the 35-40 year range.
2 buddies from the military 30+ years ago that would bury bodies as would I.
Several friends from work over the past 21 years.
I went from a Service Advisor to a COO of a $3b company so I had to grow a lot.
And we moved away from home and lived in 6 different states so no proximity to many of these friends.
Still tight as ever bc they’re amazing people regardless of their status in life or mine. Our friendship is what has always mattered most.
Most people just pick bad friends so choose wisely.

Chris Williamson dropped a hard truth on Joe Rogan:
If you actually change your life for the better, you might have to let go of your friends.
And if you keep growing… you’ll probably have to do it multiple times.
You finally find your people after the lonely phase, then realize you’ve outgrown them too. That repeated loneliness is exactly why most people stay stuck — the comfort of old friends is a powerful anchor.
Real growth isn’t just about discipline or goals. It’s often about relationships. The circle around you either lifts you or holds you back.
This one stings because I’ve lived it. Those seasons of walking away are painful, but staying the same is worse.
Have you ever had to leave behind a friend group because you were growing in a different direction?
