@LostHistory9 Isn't it interesting that all these folks are coming out of the woodwork suddenly as Colbert is announced to be writing a film? It's like there is a narrative being floated of "problems with Tolkien" which will serve as the script which the sainted Colbert will fix.

I have see lots of Gulf burqas (Battoulah) being worn in central London. The traditional Afghan burqa I’ve only ever tried on (a friend’s journalist boyfriend brought one back from Kabul over 20 years ago). It is the most horrific thing to wear. Hugely claustrophobic, limited vision and what you can see is tinted blurry blue. They are not religious, they are cultural and designed to repress and demean women. They have no place in a civilised country.

Be honest. How many times have you seen an actual full-on burqa on a British woman? It is extraordinary how much political energy is expended on an issue whose real-world impact would, to a first approximation, be zero.

The "social conservatives" were right about everything. We have been right about everything for decades. Literally everything. We told you that if you tolerate euthanasia even for the terminally ill, even for the "extreme cases," very soon it will be used to put down anyone the state deems inconvenient or burdensome. And that is exactly what has happened, just as we said it would.
