Researchers sue 6x of the world’s biggest publishers: Elsevier, John Wiley & Sons, Sage Publications, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, and Wolters Kluwer. The scientists allege publishers violated federal antitrust law by colluding not to pay researchers for peer reviewing manuscripts, preventing them from submitting papers to more than one journal at a time, and blocking authors from publicly discussing or sharing work once they’ve submitted it to a journal. statnews.com/2025/03/10/pee… via @statnews

NEW: Today, I’m releasing a Surgeon General’s Advisory on the causal link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk. Alcohol is the 3rd leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S., contributing to about 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths each year.

Research by @LSHTM looked at the accuracy of information on 15 digital tools and apps created by alcohol-industry backed organisations in the UK and other countries, and found that many contain “blatant misinformation” and could push people to drink more. independent.co.uk/news/health/dr…

Biases are inherent in all scientific studies and can be introduced by study design choices - in a newly published study we estimate the bias introduced by using a waiting list condition in alcohol intervention trials. @INEBRIA_Net @InstAlcStud doi.org/10.1016/j.drug…

Some studies, and resulting reports, have backstories which make them stand out in memory over time. This is going to be one of them - in memory of Kyp - a study of researchers decision-making to work with the alcohol industry. @INEBRIA_Net @KBSconf rdcu.be/dLNJz
