Wake up, kids We got the dreamers disease. ‘Radical’ comes from a Latin word meaning "root." Because roots are the deepest part of a plant, ‘radical’ came to describe things understood as fundamental or essential. ‘Radical change’ was a change at the root of a system.

Found an AI perspective I’d never heard before from a teacher of teens. It’s a bit meandering but your three minutes will be well used.

Yesterday, my aunt called to joyfully share that her passport was renewed, displaying her place of birth as Bethlehem, Palestine since Canada recognized it recently. I'm sharing this story to highlight the extent of our erasure & the advancement of our struggle against it. 4/

This is true, and one thing I've noticed is that it's impossible to go into any store without a feeling of significant sticker shock about everything. Nothing is priced what it's worth, and it's also not priced within the reasonable bounds of economic sustainability. Everything is priced like a luxury product now for some reason, but the quality is never luxury quality. These highly priced books are not bound more elegantly, nor is their paper more thick and rich to the touch, nor do they come with any extras. They're just the same books as always, packaged disposably, and priced higher than ever. Repeat the same formula, ad infinitum, with everything: Clothes, especially, but any consumer product.

There’s this Roger Ebert adage that you shouldn’t criticise a film for failing to do what it wasn’t trying to do, and that helps me clarify how I feel about Avatar: I can’t call it bad, it’s just up to something — seemingly very competently — that I just have no interest in

"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails. They're trying to change our habits, because all of the projections rely on people becoming truly dependent on the technology. Whether or not it's actually a good thing for society isn't considered to be a factor."

OpenAI is a loss-making monster, with new analysis that projects even IF it can hit $200bn revenue by 2030, it'll still need over $200bn in funding just to stay afloat. Platforms are increasingly turning to debt to keep this gravy train going ... windowscentral.com/artificial-int… 👇

The need to feel like you have power and agency, and are able to protect what's yours, is very real and legitimate. But sometimes if you're not mindful it will have you chasing your own tail.
