The reason you struggle to fall asleep at night is because your brain won't shut off. In the past, during moments of boredom or downtime, your mind had the space to process thoughts, prepare for stressful situations, and remind you of things you needed to do. But now, you fill every idle moment by reaching for your phone. As a result, the only quiet time your brain gets is right before bed. That is when it tries to catch up, running through all those thoughts and concerns, which keeps you awake at night.

I assumed someone with his track record would be snapped up by another house. But I was wrong. In came the pandemic, followed by shifting trends in the publishing industry, and shifting personnel in the publishing industry.

To the outside world, many would consider Chris a success. His first two books sold really well and were critically acclaimed. But, after 2019, he found himself "orphaned" when his publishing house decided to stop publishing original fiction.
