Check the declining numbers of men attending college in the last five-10 years. Look at the election data. Higher ed (and America), we have a growing problem on our hands.

My peers and I in higher ed have a problem. We are presiding over an institution that is under attack by the government. Worse, we are also under attack in the court of public opinion. Therefore, there will be no calvary coming to save us. What can we do?

What annoys me is how the business side of this works for College Board. First, they spend a lot (millions, probably) lobbying legislators to get AP into the high schools. And they get laws passed to require public colleges to accept the credit (usually 3 or above.)
