@martinvars Multi-factorial answer. First of all, who would be commending those lyrics? Given that hip-hop is a core part of the African-American community, it could become a touchy subject to be condemned by American society. Arguably, the condemnation should happen within the community.

@martinvars Just my two cents as a mere observer and someone with no vested interests. Very intellectually challenging question. Happy to discuss this over a call as I have many other hypotheses. Cheers!

@martinvars Third of all, if you still find misogyny lyrics in hip-hop or reggaeton in today's hits is because there is a market for it. It all comes down to #followingthemoney. Music labels will continue looking at the bottom line above all. It wouldn't surprise me to see lobbies already.

@martinvars Second of all (as mentioned earlier), many of those hits are by-products of their time. Some of these '80s and 90's lyrics were created when the concept of misogyny wasn't the same as today.

My 16 year old is now into hip hop and recommended it to me. I was shocked at the misogyny in the lyrics. I found this great Wikipedia article on the subject en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misogyny_… I don't understand why there is no more condemnation of this.
