“It’s been a gift to be able to die in this way.” Gabriella saw her final days as a living funeral — an opportunity to listen in on the things loved ones might normally save for a eulogy. latimes.com/california/sto… 📷: @dania_maxwell

Recently, the company, owned by billionaire Democratic donors, filed a legal challenge against California that could overturn a 2022 law that made it easier for farmworkers to take part in unionization votes.

One of California’s most powerful companies and a famous union have traded charges of deception and coercion in a fight over worker representation. Now Wonderful Nurseries is suing the state as part of its battle with the United Farm Workers. nyti.ms/4dYItBO

Have had the luck to meet and work with reporters that have A) Talent to tell great stories B) tenacity to report report report C) A big heart to tell peoples’ stories with depth @aflores is one of the few with all three. What damn mistake @WSJ
Adolfo Flores@aflores

I was among those laid off from the @WSJ along with @ailworth, @cmaiduc, @acaldwellwsj, @ShannonNajma, @bkesling, @SuryatapaB, and @TalalNAnsari. Grateful for those who trusted me with their stories and for my amazing colleagues. Not sure what’s next, but I'm excited to find out.

I knew this pain decades ago when I lived in a garage apartment without a number, just "Garage" lol. Now with our delivery-based economy & more granny flats, having a ½ address can be a nightmare @marisagerber writes latimes.com/business/story…

“Rather than go to Target and wait, I’ll just give Daddy Bezos my hard-earned cash.” As big chains lock more merchandise — condoms, crayons, Claritin, even callus cream — behind security glass, customers increasingly turn to online retailers. latimes.com/business/story…

@FranfromLA @nhannahjones Hi Fran, I’m working on a piece about how retailers have started to lock up more merchandise and how that impacts people's shopping experience. I was wondering if you might be open to speaking with me for the piece? If so, I'm at marisa.gerber@latimes.com. Thanks!

@nhannahjones In LA, the big brand stores have locked cabinets for deodorant & detergent and other items so I decided to shop at the local Mom & Pop store where nothing is locked up. It's an opportunity to support a small local business.

If you're going to lock up everything in the drug store, an already demeaning shopping experience, at least have enough workers to open up the cases for all the customers who just need a razor.

@SCRIBEMOON @AdamSinger Hi, I’m working on a piece about retailers locking up more merchandise and how it impacts the shopping experience, i.e. waits. I’d like to include the perspective of shoppers and was wondering if you’d be open to speaking with me? If so, I'm at marisa.gerber@latimes.com

I live in West LA. Everything is locked up. I had to wait 15 minutes for AAA batteries. I've given up on in store shopping. A couple of items now take almost an hour. Each item you have to find a clerk, get a clerk to call another clerk, wait for the clerk. Often can be 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

No one is saying this, consumers hate waiting for things. They go to physical retail specifically to not do that. Shopping from AMZN is more joyful than waiting around for someone to unlock Prell. This is peak corporate gaslighting, F- from Target comms team for allowing this

Some personal news: Today is my last day at the L.A. Times, as I've taken a voluntary buyout. It's been a (mostly) wonderful 30-year ride that I will always cherish. What's next? Not sure, but I've got plenty of projects at home to keep me busy. #supportjournalism
