I suggest you find out what "Gelofte Dag" actually means to the Afrikaner. It's more than a "reconciliation day", it's a day where Afrikaners pay respect to our God for saving us on the 16th of December 1838. It's like asking Muslims or Jews to move their sacred days because it clashes with a government public holiday.
