Well, it’s still happening at the Ocean Community YMCA in Westerly, RI…Three times in the last couple of months, a man pretending to be a woman, has seen fit to use the women’s locker room. A female who saw the man reported it to YMCA management last week and was told, “There is nothing I can do about it”. The OCY just received $700,000 in federal funds for upgrades to the facility. Its policy (which is also YMCA national policy) allows individuals to shower and change using the facilities of the gender with which they identify. This policy, plus the receipt of federal funds, combined with the act of a man being in the women’s locker room, and the Y being an educational institution, is a clear violation of Title IX, as it discriminates against women based on sex.
