Since Wednesday, I've gotten another 42 applications for mentoring through my website (markappel.com/apply). So I've asked for help... I'd like to introduce to you to 3 new mentors that want to give back: Josh Green (@Joshtg22) is a pitcher currently playing for AAA Reno in the Diamondbacks organization. He is planning to spend his Friday mornings mentoring a few players while still playing minor league baseball. Kier Meredith (@KierMeredith) is a current Red Sox outfield prospect playing for Hi-A Greenville Drive. Kier is setting up a schedule for Monday evenings to help high school and college athletes. Brandon Gold (@bgold_3) is a former Colorado Rockies farmhand who played in AAA last year and pitched for Team Israel in the WBC this spring. He is making himself for a few hours every day (!!!) to meet with players. These players have "been there." Getting mentored is an invaluable resource for high school and college kids looking to improve their performance. We know what it takes to get to the next level and are eager to help. If you are a high school or college baseball player and need mentoring, fill out an application online (markappel.com/apply). We will respond within 48 hours. Please share this tweet with any high school or college baseball player who might want to talk to a pro athlete. Injuries, setbacks, performance anxiety, relationships with coaches, college recruiting. Whatever it is, we've dealt with it. As a reminder, we are offering this service on a tips only basis. We never expect payment, but I highly encourage adding a tip for these three guys. Buying them the equivalent of a coffee or a meal goes a long way. Thanks everyone! Have a great weekend!

Two weeks ago, I started a mentorship program for high school, college and minor league baseball players. A few takeaways: 1. Everyone needs a listening ear. I had 50 signups in less than 24 hours and had to pause my application (it is now open again FYI). Kids are in need of adults who have "been there" and are willing to listen. Nothing more. 2. Everyone has a story. The athletes I've met range from 16 to 23 years old. Each of them is working on (or dealing with) something. Develop a better pitch. Learn a new workout routine. Deal with injuries and setbacks. Managing anxiety in everyday life. Every story is different. But every story is powerful. Listening––really listening––is a skill. I'm still developing it, but it has proven helpful so far. 3. Helping others helps yourself. This isn't why I started this program. It has just been a wonderful side effect. Getting to know some of these athletes has been a joy. The future of this world is bright. If you need mentoring: - Fill out an application online (markappel.com/apply). - I'll review and get back to you (via email). - We will set up a Zoom call and talk (if accepted). I am setting aside my Monday nights for the indefinite future to meet with high school, college and minor league baseball players while I am still in my rehab process from elbow surgery. Additionally, if you are a current pro player that has some experience and want to also mentor younger players, send me a DM and we can talk. I think there are plenty of kids out there that would benefit from your wisdom. Happy Wednesday everyone!

It's November 2021. I'm meeting my therapist Ben for the first time. I'm in a bind. It has been 8 and a half long years of professional baseball. I haven't had a good season yet. I've had three surgeries. I've already retired and come out of retirement. And through all this, I am still completely unsure whether any of this is worth it. As we are finishing our session, Ben says something that catches me off guard: "The degree to which you believe good things can happen is the degree to which our work will be effective. The more you believe, the more you will change. And the more you change, the better you will feel." My initial reaction? Yeah, right... Can it really be that simple? The answer is yes. It's just not what I think... ---------------------------- This is a preview of my next entry of The Journal I'm sending to 3,400+ tomorrow morning. If you want to get it in your inbox tomorrow, subscribe here: markappel.com Read previous entires here: markappel.com/journal I'll post the full piece tomorrow morning below this tweet. Thanks for reading and for following along. I hope everyone has a great Thursday!
