@VinceRugari But VAR for mistaken identity 🤨
The yellow wasn’t given to the wrong person diving…

@maxrushden How would Osasu have reacted if Australia were African? It’s not just the result, it’s the lack of “having a go” that’s disappointing.
English

@maxrushden While that’s a reasonable assessment, I’d suggest that they impressed most in tne first half of the first game. That 11 didn’t play again since then, why?
Also if our biggest attacking threat is played out of position that’s frustrating when it reduced his impact.
English

@simonhill1894 @Reynolds_R @Socceroos His surprising decision against Turkey got a win, then he went away from that and we hardly had a shot on target since. Surely trying Irankunda with Toure again was worth a shot.
English

@Reynolds_R @Socceroos Easy to say with hindsight. We all thought that about his XI v Turkey - 90mins later he was a genius. Today he’s not. This is football 🤷🏻♂️
English

Cruel on the @Socceroos - easy to put blame on Popa, Ryan, the ones who missed…but pens are always fine margins. Overall, Australia had a good World Cup, and the basis of a decent side is there. Asian Cup only months away.
Now, pollies - don’t put your scarves away - invest!
English

This is why we are going home.
We didn’t give ourselves a chance.

Australia only created 0.09(xGOT) against Egypt.
English

@BrentonSpeed There was a similar offside from kick off in another match the other day, just not as dangerous. But a sly tactic by the man over the ball to delay.
English

Would’ve been interesting to see if Egypt’s near goal from kickoff of 2nd half would’ve been ruled out for attacker going forward into Socceroos territory before kickoff?! That’s why refs call back kickoffs… huge miss!!! #ausegy
English

Well the Socceroos probably cannot play another half that insipid

English

@joeylynchy I think we saw Nestor perform better on the wing than as #9.
However hopefully Egypt leave more space than Paraguay. The front 3 have class, but weren’t effective last time…
English

@joeylynchy I’m not sure Volpato and irankunda are the right combination though. Would V benefit from having Toure to aim his crosses at?
English

Volpato grew into the game; really exciting first World Cup start.

Exciting #socceroos lineup. But I’m not sure Nestor is effective as a lone striker. I’d have a target man for him to run off.
English

@Smudger_RS @molchiey Don’t you think the 3 half time subs suggest Poppa realised he got it wrong? Which he deserves credit for reacting to.
English

@molchiey It’s fine to have an opinion but it’s something else to say the guy in charge got everything wrong. If I had an opinion I would say, I was surprised by…. I thought he might have…I wonder if he considered.., because I’ve spent my whole life coaching and know how difficult it is.
English

That’s quite a statement coming from someone who has been coaching, where?
Paul Williams@PaulWilliams_85
That's probably the worst 45 minutes of football we've played under Popa. An absolute disaster on every level. Got selections wrong. Got tactics wrong. And the players look unprepared for the occasion.

Britain used to be safe once. A story like this would make the headlines and it would stay headline news for years.
Now it happens every week. Sometimes multiple times a week.

A three month old baby boy was snatched from his pram while his mum was taking shopping inside her home by an unknown person. Police in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, have found the body of a baby nearby. The search has been called off following the discovery of the deceased infant. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the boys family. God only knows what they must be going through right now.

@ausstockchick Are you saying we don’t need teachers? Do we have too many or not enough?

Roy Keane on Turkey losing 2-0 to Australia national soccer team in their World Cup opener:
🗣️ “I don't want to hear excuses. Before the match, everyone was talking about Turkey as if the three points were already in the bag. Well, football doesn't care about predictions.
Australia looked like a team playing for their lives. Turkey looked like a team waiting for something to happen. That's the difference. One side competed, the other side expected.
What annoys me most is the attitude. You can forgive mistakes. You can forgive missed chances. But you cannot forgive a lack of urgency at a World Cup.
Australia won the physical battle, the mental battle, and in key moments they won the football battle too. That's embarrassing if you're Turkey because they were supposed to be the team making the statement tonight.
Some players will look at the tactics, some will blame luck, and some will point fingers elsewhere. Nonsense. Start by looking in the mirror. World Cups are not won by talent alone.
The harsh reality is this: Australia arrived believing they could win. Turkey arrived believing they should win. One mindset creates history. The other creates headlines like this.”
