As a Cleveland area resident, my wife and I started to look into joining a private club about 6-7 years ago. We had decided to join Avalon Lakes, even though 60 miles away, their non-resident rate was attractive. Then exactly one one month before we contacted them to join, they discontinued non-resident, and it wasn’t doable for that far away. Looked at a couple if others (Weymouth, Columbia Hills, Roselawn), but then Covid hit, and we decided to move south. Moved into a 55+ community in SC (Savannah Lakes, about 40 miles N of Augusta, GA) with 2 private courses and 71000 acre lake. Much more affordable, and we couldn’t be happier!

As a golf fanatic, I knew I always wanted to join a country club, which I did in 2022 But the perception of a club always bothered me, as did the lack of cost transparency Inspired by a convo with my friend @bryanhasling , let’s talk about all of the things you need to know:

@iykyk999999 @BarstoolLurch @K_Kisner No. Weather info from a general source (like weather app) and compasses are both legal. You can’t measure wind directly, but can use a weather app. USGA rule 4.3a(2)

@jeffblankenburg I had published an app in both stores that was for a golf league with only 25-30 users. I would think they would, as long as it has some interactive purpose.

I need the opinion of a software developer with experience with mobile app stores. iOS and Google. If I build an app for a small custom event that attracts no more than about 70 people a year, and is completely locked down to outsiders… Would Apple and Google publish something like that? My instinct is no.

@mglbill @Keller_B No they can't. There is no playoff if they do not submit their scorecards. Scorers walking with the groups are not official. The ONLY official score is what the player signs for on his card. So no signed scorecard submitted, no tie, no playoff. Simple.

@BradWaldera Borderline either. 30% is the new standard. 20% is minimum, if service was just acceptable.

@JasonKrump Only a DQ if you sign for a score lower than you shot. If you sign for higher score, that score is counted.

The round is not over until the scorecard is signed and it better be right. An incorrect card signed is a DQ. JJ Spaun can barely compose himself. #USOpen

Dunlap shoots 90-71 … give me your wildest golf splits of your life (weird front nine/back nine, back to back scores, even consecutive hole, etc). I played an AJGA qualifier in San Antonio once - went birdie-10-birdie on a three hole stretch.

@kevinmarkham Pull carts ok. Trolleys or any train -type vehicle are a hard no.
