My daughters husband asked to take her last name because her last name is very nice sounding and his is pretty bad like getting picked on bad. He also has a terrible family that wasnt there for him and didnt even have his own fathers last name. Sometimes there are reasons other than feminisim it goes that way.
This little boy asks him mom why she doesn’t have the same last name as him or his dad.
The mom explains that she didn’t want his dad’s last name, that she liked hers.
At one point she tells him you have your dad’s last name and I have my dad’s last name. 🤔
Some people were saying that they think she should have taken her husband’s name so their whole family has the same name.
Some men stated that they took their wife’s last name. 🤯 (I’ve never heard of that before.)
While some other women stated they hyphenated their last name with theirs and their husbands together.
I never gave this much thought. I didn’t realize this was a thing, or that so many wives don’t take their husband’s last name and I’d never heard of a man taking his wife’s last name.
Some even said the kids should have the wife’s last name because she did all the work having the baby. 😂
What do you think? Where do you stand? No big deal if the wife keeps her last name? No big deal if the husband take’s his wife’s last name? Are we past those times where it automatically assumed the wife is taking her husband’s last name?
@fidgeyhatesleft I am like your BIL. When we married, my wife kept her last name and I took it. And of course our children have that as their last name.
My BIL took his wife's last name. He had a brother who had a child so his line continued on, but his wife would have been the last of her line so he took her name to ensure that didn't happen.
I hated giving up my last name because I was the last of my line, but not having children I figured it didn't matter much.
As a child of divorced parents who's mom went back to her maiden name - it wasn't a huge bother but there were times where it was annoying and it's actually pretty insulting to your kid. Why did my mom feel she had to separate herself? Always saw that as pretty selfish and sh*tty
@esel_freund Final note. I went through all of the various name change options, just like most women do. Finally decided to take her last name, move my old last name to be my new middle name, and no hyphenation. She did not change at all.
@markhtyler59 Nice to hear!
My parents chose my mother's name upon marriage. When I was a child they told me that when two people marry they decide which of the two names they like more.
Obviously at some point I noticed that's not really what happens in our society.
@esel_freund Great story. And look at how you turned out, a good person! Our oldest is 14 and we've told the kids about what is still the unusual naming situation, so that they understand. They don't care, nor should they. It works for us.
@HathorsDaughter@manwhohasitall Wine it is. You know, some boys might resent the way you put that, but I know that you are correct. I need to get my act together.
@keleanorhassler@manwhohasitall Of course you do! But do you ever think about the pressure we are under?? Look at the outfits!! Pirate. Nurse. Teacher. School boy. Maid. Ugh!! And that's just the beginning. The looks, the whistles, the flirting, if you wanna call it that, and even the touching.
@markhtyler59@manwhohasitall There is? Oh you men, always changing definitions - but, what's the difference? I thought all guys were counting the days til Halloween when they could dress slutty one night of the year without criticism, I mean, we love it.
@keleanorhassler@manwhohasitall Well, SOME skin is ok but what you are talking about is too much. And while it might get attention, it looks cheap. There's a fine line between sexy pirate and slutty pirate.
@markhtyler59@manwhohasitall Okay, but how are you going to - get her? Women need to see the goods first, tantalise us a bit, show some skin, flash a smile, giggle, let us buy you a few drinks.
