@JB_Goldstein You don't have to lose it at 57 either, but you'd better be thinking about it (aka working on it) in your 30s 40s to make it happen in your 50s
English

You donโt have to lose you athleticism at 35
In fact, if youโre able to keep it you end up with new life

Sam Tripoli@samtripoli
What happens after 35? Men lose their athleticism and women lose their fertility! If you donโt have kids, you get stuck in a cycle that you are no longer a part of.
English

@theryandreyer with this I agree but you also have huge base from historical training loads. it builds a foundation that is lasting as long as you keep the knife sharp with regular training
English

You don't need 15 hour training weeks to do 70.3s.
I know because I'm doing one this week.
My second kid is 11 weeks old. I've had 3 sessions over 3 hours in the last 90 days.
Most of my training has been 30 minute sessions crammed in between feeding bottles and building my business.
A month ago, a buddy invited me on a big ride.
I coordinated childcare, got my wife covered, and was way stronger on the ride than I expected.
That ride told me I was fit enough to race hard.
From there my mindset was simple:
Get two more 3+ hour days in before race day.
I scheduled both around childcare. Moved the second one three times.
Still got it in.
Here's what I've learned:
If you are consistent on 5+ hours a week, you have enough of a base to do way more than you expect.

@SahilBloom @theryandreyer HUGE endorsement. Well done RD

@theryandreyer Ok, this stuff is outstanding.
Took one in my oatmeal pre-run (combo tastes like heaven) and one at the 8 mile mark of this long, easy run.
Zero stomach issues like most gels give me. Tastes amazing. Iโm a big fan. Glad I bought. Nice work!

Dana White and Gary Brecka were both 54 in this conversationโฆ and they said they feel amazing.
On Gary Breckaโs Ultimate Human podcast back in October 2023, Dana pushed back hard on the idea that feeling tired, weak, or โthis is just what 50 feels likeโ is normal.
His simple advice: eat real whole foods (meat, fish, eggs, avocados, olive oil, nuts) and cut out the carbs and sugar. Thatโs it.
This was refreshing to hear. Weโve been sold the story that declining energy and feeling average is inevitable with age, but these guys are living proof it doesnโt have to be that way.
How you feel in your 40s, 50s, and beyond isnโt just luck โ a lot of it comes down to daily choices most people overlook.
At what age did you start noticing your energy or recovery changing, and what (if anything) have you changed since?
English

@rossiadam yep. we all gonna make it, whatever that looks like. find those who agree, better together

@TheEXECUTlONER_ Lawn mowing = "wear and tear" on the body. This is what we've evolved to
English

This guy is driving by and stops to look at the robot lawnmower mowing this huge property. He is blown away and thinks this is really cool. Says he has never seen anything like it.
Back and forth, slowly it goes. A man can mow faster, but, what is your time and wear and tear on your body worth?
Some say they will never give up their mowing time, their two hours of quiet time.
But, others have said that this type of mower can help with rental properties. They drop it off, it mows while they are gone, it has a camera, and an app for it. It saves them gas and the trip out to the property every two weeks.
One person said it was the best investment he ever made. He didnโt have to mow one time last year and it mows the straightest lines and charges itself.
You will still have to edge and maybe get some tight spots around trees and stuff and they can be pricey.
So, would you ever invest in one of these? Would the extra time on your hands allow you to do something else, go work out? Tackle other projects? Would you want that kind of help? Or, is this part of the downfall of man and just something else to make us more lazy?

So I stopped using @WHOOP because it kept falling off my wrist during runs.
Seems like product has evolved a lot.

Matthew McConaughey talked about the importance of spending time alone with yourself on No Magic Pill.
So last night I took myself to dinner. No distractions. Just me.
It was uncomfortable at first. And that is exactly the point.
We also get into loss, manhood, journaling, and how he rebuilt himself from the inside out after one of the darkest years of his life.
