Given the disruption of the past 2 seasons, will the FA support the notion that age groups are held in their current playing format for next season. For example, current year U12 are moving to 11aside next season after two disrupted 9aside seasons. #longtermdevelopmemt @sturge_p

@ribeiromichel10 Although noting I prefer opposed 1v1 practices due to match realism and decision making aspects.

@ribeiromichel10 As a coach you prioritise what is best for the players development given the time you have with them. If you have 1 hour per week, perhaps unopposed practice isn't the right approach. If you have 3x2hour sessions plus a match perhaps you have some unopposed practice.

Ben Burlikowski, Chairman @ickenhamyouthfc and Coach for the U17s squad is an example of a #grassrootsfootball Coach who values the importance of supporting the human being as well as the footballer. Fantastic to have him in the sessions with the squad👊🏼

#SundayShare Two foundation phase age group suggestions to increase engagement on match day. 1️⃣ rotate the captain's armband (they ALL love to wear it!) and let the young players choose THEIR captain🗣️ 2️⃣ Let the young players select THEIR player of the match. 🏆. ⚽⚽⚽

#SundayShare I maybe late to the party on this one... Not a classic coaching book📖 but many great snippets and behaviours for the modern day coach to take onboard. The podcast is very decent too!🧠🗣️ Especially the Gareth Southgate episode. #TheHighPerformancePodcast

@PBazza07 @Erushforth1 Agree with this 100% 👌. My point is if we want young players to have the ability to play off 1, 2 or 10 touches, using a limited touch constraint could help them develop this skill (scanning, picture taking). It could form the "part" of a whole, part, whole session for example.

@Erushforth1 @markpaedwards1 As coaches, we need to help develop the most efficient and appropriate number of touches to take in a given moment and be mindful of restricting this which can have a detrimental effect on decision, choice and ultimately realism. The type of touch is as important as the number.

🗣”Ok you’re on 2 touch, play!” Try to avoid limiting player’s touches in sessions: ▪️Reduces their decision making📉🧠 ▪️Stifles the dribblers in your groups❌☹️ ▪️Predictable to defend against🥱 Challenge players with: “Take as many touches as you NEED, not as you want”⚽️⚽️⚽️

@Erushforth1 @PBazza07 Agree this can and will happen sometimes or an extra touch is taken. It will be messy at first however the condition still encourages the idea of scanning and having that picture. It may not be identical to match day conditions but it is still transferable in my view. 🤔

@markpaedwards1 @PBazza07 I guess the problem is no matter what happens in a game their will always be times where maybe taking more is needed. Often see 2 touch then players end up unrealistically shielding the ball as they have no pass on

@PBazza07 @footballdna_ Great blog Paul👌. For me it is all about the environment a coach creates. Having an engaging, fun, games based session, where the boys/girls are not afraid of making mistakes facilities creativity and long term development. ⚽🙌.
