As with all new technologies, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization won’t be delivered with a sudden leap from old to new. It will be an evolution. We witnessed something similar when early financial markets made the move from paper to fully electronic systems. It didn’t happen overnight. The evolution of tokenized assets is following a deliberate, incremental path. Legacy structures and legal frameworks remain important in helping institutions engage with the new technology. For instance, Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) are providing familiar legal wrappers and operational models, helping institutions engage with blockchain at scale by holding assets like US Treasuries and real estate off-chain while issuing digital tokens on-chain. But SPVs are not the destination. The true future lies in natively-issued on-chain assets. This transformation isn’t just a technical upgrade; it’s a complete redefinition of financial logic, where compliance is enforced by code and settlement is instant. In a recent conversation with Leonard Schellberg at @beincrypto I discussed how @Ripple is unlocking the next phase of blockchain utility for institutions on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). The XRPL is acting as a foundational layer for financial applications such as the tokenization of real-world assets. Two recent Ripple partnerships highlight this: Our work with Ctrl Alt and the Dubai Land Department (DLD) has seen the DLD issue title deeds directly on the XRP Ledger. Guggenheim Treasury Services is issuing tokenized commercial paper on the XRPL in partnership with @Ripple and @zeconomy_x . As these use cases are established on the XRPL, new features such as the recently launched EVM sidechain are further enabling programmable, compliant DeFi and paving the way for a multi-chain future. And as the interaction between decentralized and regulated systems becomes the norm, the importance of public blockchains like the XRPL, which offer transparency, immutability, and security, is growing. Last month we hosted Apex 2025 in Singapore. The annual summit brought together the global XRPL community, including developers, innovators, businesses, and investors from across Asia and beyond for three days of powerful discussions and cutting-edge demos focused on blockchain and the XRP Ledger ecosystem. The Ripple team did a fantastic job, delivering a forward-looking and energizing three-day event. There were many great sessions but one of my personal highlights was my keynote discussion with Sam Bizri from Zeconomy, which was hosted by Shaurya Malwa from CoinDesk. In this session, we discussed how Zeconomy is bringing new institutional use cases onchain, including the first native digital commercial paper on XRPL in the form of Digital Commercial Paper (DCP) which is administered by Guggenheim Treasury Services, one of the largest independent commercial paper platform managers in the world. We also discussed broader tokenization use cases, compliance requirements and opportunities for developers to get involved. A lot has already been said about @Robinhood’s announcement this week — and rightly so. The launch of tokenized equities in the EU by a company like Robinhood is a big deal. Here’s what it means: - EU customers will be able to access commission-free, 24/7 trading of tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs — including names like Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft. And EU investors in the tokenized stock will have the same user experience as US investors buying the underlying stock. - What’s more, tokens tied to private companies such as OpenAI and SpaceX will also be offered, unlocking private equity assets that have traditionally been out of reach for most investors. But more than that, it signals some broader themes: -Public blockchains are becoming the backbone of modern financial markets. - Real-world adoption will happen in jurisdictions which set out clear regulation. Public chains like #XRPL deliver what legacy systems and permissioned DLTs can't: real-time settlement, built-in compliance, operational efficiency, and access to 24/7 liquidity. Europe is leading by example — showing what can be enabled when innovation is met with regulatory clarity. The Robinhood announcement reinforces what I’ve believed for a while: tokenization isn’t the future — it’s happening now. Blockchain rails are going mainstream, and capital markets as we know them are transforming, fast. Now’s the time for all of us to seize the opportunity represented by tokenized finance!

I believe tokenization can be a turning point for financial institutions. Real assets like bonds and private credit are moving onchain. This isn’t about speculation— it’s about leveraging public blockchain technology to enable faster settlement and broader market access. The shift is already underway.
