"Do you worry that's about to happen again?" @bbcnickrobinson asks former Conservative Justice Secretary David Gauke, who is leading the Independent Sentencing Review into prisons, if he's concerned spending that is earmarked for reform will be diverted. #R4Today

@BBCr4today @bbcnickrobinson Primary MHTRs are cheap, effective and reduce reoffending. Despite the robust evidence for this, I absolutely share the concern regarding the budget and whether we will get the funding needed to ensure they remain effective. Difficult times ahead I think.

Our Mental Health Bill will end the inappropriate use of prison for people in desperate need of psychological care. These reforms will ensure they, and others facing acute mental health problems, get the urgent specialist help they need.

@MerseysidePCC This sounds great 👏 Understanding trauma is key. Being trauma informed is also about a system that is safe, trustworthy, enables choice, collaboration and empowerment for staff as well as people that come into contact with that system. Well done! This is a great start!

Merseyside's Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell
7️⃣0️⃣% of adults have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lives. That is a staggering figure! Evidence shows that trauma can have a significant impact on life opportunities, the likelihood of becoming involved with serious violence, and health and wellbeing. By ensuring @MerseyPolice is trauma informed, we can better prepare front-line officers and staff to understand the impacts that trauma can have on us, our families, our colleagues and the people we support each day.
Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership@MerseysideVrp

🚨Great to start the roll out of our trauma informed training to all frontline officers and staff in @MerseyPolice today. By raising awareness and understanding of trauma and the impact it has on individuals, this course is designed to build resilience and help them to deal with the challenging and sometimes distressing situations they face, as well as improving their own health and wellbeing. Thanks to @MerseysidePCC & @merpolchiefcon for their support and commitment to building a trauma aware and responsive region 🫶

Really pleased to see this new report from MoJ describing how effective #MHTRs are at reducing reoffending by helping people address underlying mental health issues:)
Revolving Doors@RevDoors

📚 @MoJGovUK has released a new report about the effectiveness of community sentence treatment requirements (CSTRs). Our member Daisy* spoke to @LBC's @charlotterlynch about how being given a mental health treatment requirement (MHTR) helped her escape the revolving door.

@AlexChalkChelt @innovjustice Interested to compare this model to the innovative problem solving / complex case court models in Merseyside. These also integrate treatment requirements as part of robust community sentencing to support people to make positive change so they can live healthier and safer lives.

Fascinating to visit problem-solving courts in Manhattan and Brooklyn with @innovjustice this week. They reduce reoffending by giving offenders the opportunity to address the complex issues underpinning their crimes whilst keeping the public safe.
