Keir Starmer simply isn’t taking defence seriously, even in the current climate. The Treasury is delaying the Defence Investment Plan, due last Autumn, we’re yet to see the Defence Finance and Investment Strategy, due now, or the Defence Infrastructure Recapitalisation plan, due last month. HMS Dragon has arrived in the Eastern Mediterranean nearly a month after the start of the conflict, just as it appears peace negotiations have started, meanwhile we’ve been reliant upon the US Navy for ballistic missile defence. Our lack of defence investment is seeing us slip into the bottom tier of NATO spending and we’re struggling to even afford the programmes we’re committed to such as GCAP. And yet the Government sends ministers out on the media round to gaslight the public that the armed forces have everything they need.
