I almost got iOS 26 running on iPhone 6 Plus The kernel runs but the issue is that iOS 26 can’t talk to the iPhone 6 Plus hardware so I tried forcing iPhone 6 Plus device tree from iPhone 6 Plus to see if it could work but it didn’t. The Hackintosh community didn’t disappear. The hardware changed. That’s literally it. People said the same thing when Apple switched from PowerPC to Intel. Then people figured stuff out anyway. That’s how these communities work. It starts with “this is impossible” and then six months later somebody has a blurry screenshot of a desktop booting with half the drivers broken. I would not be surprised AT ALL if people are already trying to get macOS kernels booting on ARM PCs privately right now. Probably unstable, probably no graphics acceleration, probably crashes every five minutes, but that’s how literally every major hardware hacking scene starts. People forget early Hackintosh systems were disasters too: - broken audio - broken sleep - no GPU acceleration - random kernel panics - weird patched kexts from forums Then eventually OpenCore became insanely polished. And honestly? Apple accidentally made ARM experimentation MORE interesting, not less. Modern ARM laptops are starting to look closer to Apple Silicon conceptually: - unified memory - integrated GPUs - efficient SoCs - AI/NPU hardware So now the question becomes: “Can we imitate enough Apple hardware behavior for macOS to cooperate?” That’s a completely different challenge than old Intel Hackintosh, but not an impossible one forever. People already reverse-engineered Apple Silicon enough to get Linux running properly on it through Asahi. So clearly talented developers ARE willing to spend years reverse engineering Apple hardware when they care enough. I think the future is probably less: “Install macOS on any random PC” and more: “One or two specific ARM platforms become community-supported through insane amounts of patching and reverse engineering.” Which honestly sounds exactly like how Hackintosh evolved in the first place.
