The only way we're managing is bc I give her a lot of money every month, she has a fantastic pension, and had managed to squirrel a bit of money away into TFSA and RRSPs towards the end of her career. What the hell are people without these privileges meant to do?

Lemme tell you something, they ain't wrong. My mom is 83 and her retirement home is currently $6k a month plus ad hoc PSW supports when she can't walk. We're probably going to run out of money before her LTC spot opens up.
