The family of a 26-year-old Iranian man arrested within the last few days during the regime’s crackdown on protests have been told he will be executed, according to the Norway-based Hengaw Organization for Human Rights which focuses on rights violations in Iran. Despite the Iranian authorities blocking communications Hengaw says his family was able to reach them and share his story, hoping international pressure can help save Erfan Soltani. CBS News has not been able to verify their account.

My heart is with the brave people of Iran protesting for freedom, human rights, and an end to the regime’s brutal oppression. Several of my constituents have been unable to contact family and friends due to the regime’s internet blackouts and the suppression of telecommunications and information. The deliberate killing of Iranians protesting for freedom and human rights is abhorrent and must end immediately. Iranians deserve freedom, justice and for all those responsible to be held to account. As Prime Minister @MarkJCarney stated: our government strongly condemns the killing of protesters and urges Iran to allow for freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without fear of reprisal.

A new café has opened in Scarborough, Toronto, under the name “Kanfani.” The café is named after Ghassan Kanafani, who was a leader in the terrorist organization the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and one of its spokesmen. Kanafani collaborated with terrorists from the Japanese Red Army to carry out the deadly attack at Lod Airport in 1972 on behalf of the PFLP, in which 24 people were killed and around 70 others were injured. Kanafani was killed later that same year in a mysterious explosion in Lebanon, which is attributed to the Mossad. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine is listed as a terrorist organization in official Canadian government documents.
