KamAZ was already partially bailed out in late 2024 and has contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense that support years of manufacturing. The need for trucks and chassis for the Russia's military is crystal clear.
Yet KamAZ is hemorrhaging money and conducting mass layoffs after mass layoffs.
Imagine International Truck in 2010, cranking out MaxxPro M1124 MRAPs as fast as it could, going bankrupt at the same time (KamAZ was bankrupt in November 2024 under US accounting rules), and doing mass layoffs, reduction in hours, salary freezes, etc.

Some workers have had their salaries cut by a third and are being put on a 4-day workweek. Some are also being forced to take vacations at their own expense and have their working hours reduced. Last year, KamAZ made a net loss of 43 billion rubles, and truck sales fell by 16%. The Russian truck market itself shrank almost by half in a year.
