44Y94 canola sown 3rd April @ 1.6kg/ha (188,000 seeds/kg). 24 plants/m2. Sown 35-40mm deep onto moisture in a grazed faba bean stubble. Now 3-5 leaf & ready for early post em. Accurate seed placement with a single disc when dry on top & chasing moisture. #warakirricropping

@grassrootsag @gsandral @WeedSmartAU @CropDoctor54 @peterdnewman Sometimes you gotta do something out the box and its had a strict 2nd knock giving us 4 moa within 7 days. Cletho over 20 degrees works so much better and to have the paddock 100% clean with out the big nasty suckers brings alot of confidence.

@marrettfarms @gsandral @WeedSmartAU @CropDoctor54 @peterdnewman Prefer to save the cletho for pulses & canola. Research from the early days of gly res. ryegrass (NSW DPI Tony Cook) found Group 1/A herbicides used in fallow will accelerate the resistance process.

Double & triple knock jobs working a treat on known resistant ryegrass populations. 1st pass Crucial alone (no spike) then 2nd pass group 14/G + paraquat. 3rd pass if required another paraquat. Pre ems also synergistic with paraquat eg Overwatch, Boxer, Reflex @WeedSmartAU

It’s exciting to have canola out of the ground early April for the first time on our farm Very interested to see how AGT insurgent yields. I see a good fit for our farm in low rainfall area with the low seed cost, end point royalty system.

#ausag Q: how long can #urea be stored in bulk on a concrete floor? Assume plastic under & on top. Fully enclosed shed. Looking to store for 4 months. Thanks in advance. #fertiliser

@AMC_DirtDollars Had some in our shed over 12 months, on concrete covered with plastic (old grain bag) started pulling it out this morning and it’s perfect. Going through airseeder no drama.

First time working country in 15 20 years. Long term sheep country going into cropping. Note the delving we have done to make pastures grow better and how wet its coming up! Good to see results

@GrainOrana @farmersgrowit @GRDCNorth @MaurieStreet Wouldn't a 70 dollar reduction on seed and a re investment into a extra 100kg of urea be worth more than the total loss by growing the f2? And say for wheat after picking up extra n make they system more profitable?

@marrettfarms @farmersgrowit @GRDCNorth @MaurieStreet Yield reductions of 14-39% from using F2 seed in a low yielding year could result in no profit. Only In the case of a total failure does the low cost of F2 seed means you have a smaller loss 20% reduction in 1/2t/ha crop is still $70/ha which would pay for the F1 seed

@farmersgrowit @GrainOrana @GRDCNorth @MaurieStreet @agtbreeding Couldn't agree more. New op line looks to be very solid and from what we are hearing cl and tti varietys are on the way. A mixture of both op and bought for traits seems to keep economics in check and seed security at ease.

@GrainOrana @marrettfarms @GRDCNorth @MaurieStreet My limited experience is 10% loss in yield and possibly some loss in resistance (blackleg etc). I still prefer F1 seed because of economics but am keen to watch and support @agtbreeding and others that breed OP’s so we can have seed security.

@marrettfarms @farmersgrowit @GRDCNorth @GrainOrana @MaurieStreet I hate to be on the big guys side but I’ve seen 500kg difference (2t to 1.5t) on F1 vs F2 grown as seed company couldn’t supply. Too expensive to lose that. F2 was still better than the wheat crop that would have been option 3 though

@farmersgrowit @GRDCNorth @GrainOrana @MaurieStreet Also in low to medium rainfall where the risk is high for a fail the potential extra profit from retaining f2 with out the seed cost can make it the difference between growing canola or not.we keep getting told op isn't the go but insurgent canola performs on par to hybirds

@farmersgrowit @GRDCNorth @GrainOrana @MaurieStreet I find it funny that a seed company sponsors this research and that in the finding they will not release the f2 hybird trial data where the compensate for the reduction of establishment. I personally know of f2 canola grown gm and on farm trials show not reduction.
