@marrowing @Narmisrah @laundryroast This appears to be specifically a rebuttal to the "desert framework" defense of laissez-faire capitalism. It doesn't suggest that investment (or laissez-faire capitalism more broadly) does not reward risk in any way.

Jim chalmers shaking crying and freaking out because the founder of a QR code menu ordering startup said he didn’t like the CGT changes is one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen

@Narmisrah @laundryroast if investment rewarded risk-taking, investments with equal risk profiles would produce the same return

@marrowing @laundryroast Investing does not reward risk? How do you think public capital markets work? 🤔🤔

@marrowing They are capable of selling themselves as a do-nothing centrist party. They are not capable of selling a change our country literally needs. That is a problem. It is not something to be ignored because "haha labor" if you care about actual change in this country.

@marrowing @laundryroast Capital is risk. When you invest your capital you may lose it. How’s that the case with a job? Also you do realise you invest capital with your after tax income right?

@Aquae_Sq if they are capable of selling themselves well enough to win two elections, they are capable of selling tax reform, and immediately blame shifting to the media environment when they are clearly fucking it up is extremely unpersuasive and defeatist

@marrowing Cool. This is only relevant if you care about who wins in the abstract, and not in our country being run well and getting the changes it needs.

@Aquae_Sq they won two elections. the media environment is clearly not an impossible barrier and complaining about it whenever the government is failing to sell their own agenda is extremely pathetic

@marrowing Yeah, and the moment they try to do anything they entire media class does everything it can to destroy them. All while people on the left sit back and refuse to publicly prosecute the changes they've been demanding for years because they don't care about actual change.

@laundryroast both for egalitarian reasons and so that labour income can't be disguised as capital income

@marrowing Albo "we have made these changes to housing, to make other investments more appealing" Interviewer "ok so why are the changes on all assets". Pretty much word for word from a pod cast late last week. The changes to housing are good

@marrowing @laundryroast Then why not reduce the taxation of labour? Why do you lot always think higher taxes is the answer? They're getting smoked right now, and deservedly so

@marrowing Yeah? So what? I don't think we should be afraid of looking like we're whinging when it comes to a society defining problem.

@marrowing How is Labor supposed to make a case when every media outlet in the country is ideologically opposed to them?

@marrowing The CGT impacts to shares is dumb though and their parades through the media have reinforced they didn't actually know what they are doing

Labor is so fucking pathetic, even when they are doing completely sensible reform AND there is literally no credible opposition, they are still blinking stupidly in the light and going UHHH UHHH UMMMM like it never occurred to them they’d have to make a positive case for change

I finished reading that belle burden divorce memoir and it is extremely average except for the sick satisfaction you get from hearing about a person from extreme wealth and privilege get completely hoodwinked and betrayed
