@marrowing @Narmisrah @laundryroast This appears to be specifically a rebuttal to the "desert framework" defense of laissez-faire capitalism. It doesn't suggest that investment (or laissez-faire capitalism more broadly) does not reward risk in any way.
English

@Donaldbigrump @Narmisrah @laundryroast apparently arch socialist von mises made the same point, I have discovered mises.org/mises-wire/ris…
English

@Narmisrah @laundryroast if investment rewarded risk-taking, investments with equal risk profiles would produce the same return
English

@marrowing @laundryroast Investing does not reward risk? How do you think public capital markets work? 🤔🤔
English

@marrowing They are capable of selling themselves as a do-nothing centrist party. They are not capable of selling a change our country literally needs. That is a problem. It is not something to be ignored because "haha labor" if you care about actual change in this country.
English

@Narmisrah @laundryroast 1. investing does not reward risk 2. the tax is on capital *gain*
English

@marrowing @laundryroast Capital is risk. When you invest your capital you may lose it. How’s that the case with a job? Also you do realise you invest capital with your after tax income right?
English

@marrowing Cool. This is only relevant if you care about who wins in the abstract, and not in our country being run well and getting the changes it needs.
English

@marrowing Yeah, and the moment they try to do anything they entire media class does everything it can to destroy them.
All while people on the left sit back and refuse to publicly prosecute the changes they've been demanding for years because they don't care about actual change.
English

@laundryroast both for egalitarian reasons and so that labour income can't be disguised as capital income
English

@marrowing … that’s the outcome, not the reason. Why should those things be treated equally
English

@The_scanner_man to be clear I was not saying their defense of the policy was good, just the policy itself
English

@marrowing Albo "we have made these changes to housing, to make other investments more appealing" Interviewer "ok so why are the changes on all assets". Pretty much word for word from a pod cast late last week. The changes to housing are good
English

@agb201399 @laundryroast because higher taxes is always the answer westernsydneywonk.wordpress.com/2020/05/20/the…
English

@marrowing @laundryroast Then why not reduce the taxation of labour? Why do you lot always think higher taxes is the answer?
They're getting smoked right now, and deservedly so
English

@marrowing Yeah? So what? I don't think we should be afraid of looking like we're whinging when it comes to a society defining problem.
English

@marrowing How is Labor supposed to make a case when every media outlet in the country is ideologically opposed to them?
English

@marrowing The CGT impacts to shares is dumb though and their parades through the media have reinforced they didn't actually know what they are doing
English

@laundryroast to equalise treatment of income from labour and capital
English

@JulesLikely2 why are you repeating back to me something I already said twice
English

@marrowing This is a really sick view. I don't think anyone was reading it with your take.
