Then in 2021, economies reopened faster than production recovered, causing a sudden surge in demand for oil and gasoline. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 Russia is one of the world’s largest oil exporters. After the invasion, markets feared supply disruptions, sanctions reduced Russian exports to many countries, and crude oil prices jumped dramatically. U.S. gasoline prices hit record averages above $5 per gallon nationally in mid-2022. Limited refinery capacity Several refineries had closed during the pandemic or were offline for maintenance/conversions. Even when crude oil was available, the U.S. had less ability to turn it into gasoline and diesel, pushing fuel prices higher. Global supply chain and labor issues Shipping bottlenecks, labor shortages, and higher transportation costs affected energy markets broadly. OPEC+ production limits The oil-producing alliance led by OPEC and Russia increased production gradually rather than rapidly, which kept global oil supplies tighter.

One of my favorite SciFi book was called 'The Golden Rule'. The premise was that aliens had seeded earth and another planet with humans as a social experiment. They left the two worlds alone and watched them develop. The other world developed slowly didn't have a 'God' that ruled them. They nations were cooperative with each other and the world was relatively peaceful. Earth, not so much. Earth immediately developed religion where various nation's gods affected everyday life. Finally, when we got to where we were blowing each other up (many times in the name of god), the aliens stepped in and imposed the 'golden rule' on earth. That meant that if you shot someone, you died (etc). Societies freaked out when they found out that aliens were their 'god'. Mass hysteria ensued and the book was about the human and political implications that we were put here by Aliens. Since this was 40 years ago, I'm not sure if the book is still in print. If it is, it's worth a read. Another fun read is The Last Days of the Late, Great State of California. It's a novel about what would happen politically if California had the great earthquake and sunk into the sea.

I just….. how can anyone take these people and this news stations seriously anymore
