Il problema per Burnham, comunque agirà, è e resterà il peccato originale. Arriva al potere dopo aver tramato per oltre un anno contro un primo ministro che - al momento in cui lui cominciava a tramare - aveva riportato i laburisti al potere dopo 14 anni solo da un anno. E questo per me chiude già il cerchio: 0 lealtà, 0 etica. Arriva al potere senza alcun mandato e ci arriva proponendo politiche più a sinistra di Starmer contro il mandato moderato votato dagli elettori. Burnham è l’incarnazione di quella sinistra che non riuscendo a vincere le elezioni, strappa il potere a chi le ha vinte. Il problema futuro per ogni leader laburista che promuoverà politiche moderate come Starmer sarà: come potrà l’elettorato credere a un partito che usa il leader moderato solo per poi scalzarlo e poi imporre politiche più estreme? Il precedente per il Labour può essere devastante. A meno che, ovviamente, è solo un bluff e Burnham continuerà l’agenda di Starmer solo con una faccia più simpatica al pubblico. Ma in tal caso, il peccato originale prima o poi potrebbe tornare a mordere.
