It's an interesting fact of human history that we have these two similar sized islands, Japan and the UK that are close to a mainland, and have had outsized influence and power throughout history compared to their size.
Having an island of a certain size or above separated from the mainland really seems like a powerful starting position.
Both held their own historically against the significantly larger continental rival (France, China).
Madagascar and the southern African mainland present a similar geographical arrangement, but it hasn't had the same historical importance.

Now is the perfect time to write your own engine. The argument in the past was that you don't have time to write all the less important generic features. Now, the LLM will do that for you. You can focus on things that differentiate your product.

This all sounds horrific and like Iran has in fact always had lots of leverage, right? Yeah! It does! That's why "war with Iran" was off the table for decades and Trump himself made no war with Iran a key plank of his political campaigns. I still can't believe this is happening!

It's a lot easier for Iran to bomb every water desalination plant in the Gulf states and Israel, effectively destroying those societies permanently since they rely on those plants for ~50%+ of drinking water, than it is for the U.S. and Israel to bomb all of Iran into rubble.
