trillions of dollars spent on AI and the only interface is still a chatbot. still no branching canvas, no mindmap, no dimensionality, no forking, no inversion, no merging. no custom functions. no style and no creativity

Benjamin Franklin wearing a coonskin cap while being received by the French court. "Proper" attire at the time would have been a powdered wig, but Franklin enjoyed playing up his "rustic" American identity. On these trips, he asked for military support for newly independent US.

can't actually think of a problem that wouldn't largely self-correct if we could just reduce the cost of housing by like 75%

Remote work doesn't thwart productivity. It boosts focus. Data: Government workers are 12% more productive when randomly assigned to work from home. They're more efficient where it's quiet. Most people aren't shirking from home. They're escaping distractions and long commutes.

Did you know that Medicare does NOT pay for long-term care. NOPE... 2/3s of long-term care for your grandparents and parents is paid by MEDICAID. So if you want to cut Medicaid, get ready to have your parents move into your house when they need long-term care, because YOU will be providing it. aarp.org/caregiving/hea…

Instead of illegally trying to shut down huge pieces of our government that serve working people, Elon Musk could cut $2 trillion of actual waste by targeting handouts to the rich and powerful. Here’s how: (🧵)

The WSJ documented over $50 billion in Medicare Advantage fraud -- insurers systemically diagnosing fake diseases in patients so they can overbill the gov. That is 100000x more than any of the silly sounding grants that go viral here.

A really eye opening moment for young me was hearing a labor organizer ask, “If capital can cross borders, why can’t labor?” It was such a simple encapsulation of the ethical & moral problematics of eschewing migrants, while creating the economic crises that led to migration.

Generative AI is essentially copy paste but with large datasets analyzed probabilistically. Maybe that's useful but it's not intelligence and doesn't justify the absurd amounts of investment it's attracted

Seems important that in Fahrenheit 451, books were still “available” in single-paragraph summaries—“read Hamlet in five minutes!”—but the books themselves had been banned for being too difficult. Tech boosters see a warning and think it’s an instruction manual.

Personally, I read a bunch of classics in high register in college. I guess it was fun. I recently ChatGPT'd Aristotle into readable English, finished it around 5x as fast as a translation, and felt I got the main gist of things. idk does the pain incurred actually teach much?

Remember this? Disney understood 70 years ago what driving (& bad urban and suburban design creating car dependancy) can do to us. “Motor Mania” from 1950. Are you a Mr. Walker or a Mr. Wheeler? #CarDependency #RoadRage HT @LiorSteinberg
