Lesson 1: Test a LOT of creators
We didn't find our best people by luck. We ran batch after batch after batch.
Most people hire one or two creators, nothing clicks, and they go "ugc doesn't work."
The game is volume. Test more creators than feels comfortable.
Lesson 2: Your recruiting network is everything.
If you don't have a strong pipeline for finding creators, you're just hiring whoever shows up. And whoever shows up is usually not your best performer.
Build the network before you need it.
Lesson 3: Pause creators who aren't working
Most teams keep giving chances out of politeness.
Bad content isn't just bad; it's expensive in time, budget, and momentum.
If a creator consistently underperforms after feedback, pause them.
Lesson 4: Every video needs a coach before it goes live.
Not a manager who watches it for 10 seconds and says, “Looks good.”
A real coach.
Someone needs to check the hook, pacing, clarity, delivery, and whether the video actually has a chance to hold attention.
Lesson 5: Create a great onboarding system
A confused creator makes confused content. Every time.
If they don’t understand the brand, hook style, content format, and expectations in the first 48 hours, you’ll spend the next 2 weeks fixing avoidable mistakes.
Good onboarding saves revisions before they happen.
Build a proper onboarding. Trust me, it will save you more time in the future.
Lesson 6: Don't just brief the product. Brief the format.
“Talk about our app” is not a brief.
Give them the hook format. The pacing. The feeling you want the audience to walk away with. I know, "creative freedom" sounds nice, but a clear format produces better content.
Lesson 7: Hire a doomscrolling expert.
I’m serious, that's a real role.
Hire someone whose job is to scroll TikTok, Instagram, and Reels every single week. Make them hunt for trending formats, viral hooks, and content gaps.
That’s where the ideas are.
Lesson 8: Have a scriptwriter on your team.
Not every creator is a natural writer. And that's fine.
Some creators are great at delivery, facial expressions, timing, and making content feel real. Our best videos came from pairing the creator’s delivery with a strategist’s words.
Let creators perform. Let writers sharpen the message.
Lesson 9: Review your data every single day.
Not weekly. Not monthly. Daily.
Look for watch time, completion rate, and engagement.
The numbers tell you what's dying before you've wasted another week posting it.
Lesson 10: Stop following trends. Start creating them.
Following trends is fine.
But if that’s your whole strategy, you’re already behind.
The biggest accounts aren’t just copying what worked yesterday.
They test strange formats, unexpected hooks, and ideas people haven’t seen before.
And when it works?
The rest of the internet starts copying them. That’s the REAL goal.
