This rule is never applicable for a yellow card and the exception was made to benefit Argentina. Injustice

🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: Full explanation! Leandro Paredes was first shown a yellow card for a foul on Embolo. VAR then told the referee to review the incident after spotting that Embolo had dived. After watching the replay, the referee overturned Paredes' yellow card and instead booked Embolo for simulation. As Embolo was already on a yellow card, it became his second yellow and he was sent off.

@tobyasky Well, the referee should have rescinded the yellow card awarded to the Argentine player…and restart the game with a dead ball (in favour of Argentina) rather than use VAR out of context.

A ver, con manzanas El VAR no interviene xq Embolo simuló una falta. Interviene porque le sacó amarilla a Paredes, cuando no correspondía. Esa regla se llama Mistaken Identity, y se aplica cuando amonestas al jugador equivocado. Paso EXACTAMENTE lo mismo en el USA vs Paraguay
