Submitted Immutables to the Digital Art Prize 2026. Whether it gets selected or not, I believe the work holds something genuinely special: artist and collector provenance recorded on Bitcoin at the very moment of mint, within a single transaction. In this work, the minting process is part of the artwork itself, just as much as the AI-generated pixelated portraits that live fully on-chain in Bitcoin UTXOs. Another consequence of this structure is that the minter does not only participate in the work’s creation, but also holds the data through which it exists on Bitcoin. This, in turn, gives the minter control over the data that materially carries the work, allowing them to recontextualise it, tokenise it through other protocols, and circulate or resell it in new forms.
