Just another thatch roof renovation on a 400 year old listed building in #Bramhall. Jim, Dave & Andy also did a lot of ancillary work,.. Lead-work, tiling, woodwork, painting and rendering to help the customer and move the job along. #Thatching, #MasterThatchers.

@TinyWriterLaura We have worked on that cottage on several occasions and the owners were always very happy. We re-thatched that front elevation in 2009.

i grew up in a very quaint little village outside scunthorpe and mum just sent me a photo of a Master Thatcher re-thatching a cottage down the road, and honestly i love that there are still skilled people like this doing things that simply can’t be replaced by machines 🥺

@wyclif In parts yes the ‘shops have false fronts but otherwise real buildings with real thatch.

On my travels today..This thatch is well worn & is now only around 175 mm in thickness. A new single layer of thatch & measured from the battens would be about 350mm and bring it up to where the strip of Lead is fixed into the wall. #Thatching

In the days before scaffolding it looks like an obstacle course!

@SarahLouisaColl Never saw it but probably referring to a new ridge needed around 10-15 years, straw around 25 years and reed up to 50 years.

@masterthatcher2 On escape to the country they change their minds all the time! 15, 25, 50 years! What does the master say?

How long does a thatch roof last? Apparently the owner said we thatched this roof in 2002 and it hasn’t had any work done to it since then. I think probably overdue a new ridge. #Thatching.

@PaulPitt1967 That dormer and his jacket have an uncanny resemblance , albeit it from a distance and not obscured by a ( in this case) unnecessary hi viz jacket.😂

Well -we’ve started at guess where? It’s been great weather for the diners and drinkers to watch us. There’s quite a bit to do here so we’ve got the whole team on it for the next 4-5 weeks. Can’t remember if this has ever happened before.#Thatching in #Lancashire.
