@historyinmemes @DavidDeutschOxf The entries on Futurism and Pragmatism are superbly unenlightening.

@Lost___London Miraculous that so little bomb damage was sustained by English cathedrals, in spite of the Baedeker raids and in spite of their surroundings being laid waste. As England’s cathedrals are among the greatest buildings in the world, if not the greatest, that’s a mercy for Mankind.

@theRBMIV @RuxandraTeslo Lord Crewe had a much longer stint - 47 years.

Pleased to meet the @payestonework project team @leedscastleuk today to review the excellent progress made on stonework restoration on the New Castle, to which we made a funding contribution. The Kentish ragstone appears grey when quarried but weathers to a sandy brown.

@fesshole One of the main reasons pubs are so important. You can be alone but not lonely, and take a share of the general warmth and conviviality.
English

@LancsCCMG The plaque is obviously about cricket but you’d think it might at least mention his heroic death.
English

@richardwillq There used to be a superb run of KEVII pillar boxes outside the HQ. Astonishingly that they all just went when the GPO left.
English

taken outside the old GPO Headquarters on St Martin’s Le Grand, within the City of London. This post box was unveiled a decade ago by the now King and Queen. #postboxsaturday

@LiverpoolVista We might be able to help fund restoration work if the owners (Our Lady and Nicholas?) were interested.

The Simpson Fountain.
What a difference over a century makes. Located on the outer wall of Our Lady and St Nicholas Church, this fountain was built in 1885 to honour William Simpson - a dockside hero who used his "Simpson Bowl" to raise money for the city's poor.
It’s sad to see the wear and tear today.

@JoeBrownLondon @ltmuseum In a way it made more sense the way it was. They would have done better renaming the Central Line station.
English

#OnThisDay 118 years ago only 9 months after opening, Tottenham Court Road was renamed Goodge Street, and Oxford Street was renamed Tottenham Court Road, matching the adjacent Central Line station: presumably very confusing beforehand! Images: @ltmuseum / TheFrog001 wikimedia
