I have been working on Obsidian Reader for a over a year. I didn't want to share it until I felt it was good enough. It's finally there. Consistent formatting for any article. Outline, syntax highlighting, nice footnotes, adjustable typography. Runs locally. Just rules, no AI.

Laravel 13 ships passkeys natively. Face ID, fingerprint, hardware keys — no third-party packages, no stored passwords. Here's how it works and why it matters. Passkeys work via two ceremonies: ATTESTATION (Registration): 1. Server sends a challenge + your domain (RP ID) + user ID 2. Browser asks device to generate a public/private key pair 3. Private key is stored in hardware. It NEVER leaves the device. 4. Public key + signed challenge → your server 5. Server stores the public key. That's it. ASSERTION (Authentication): 1. Server sends a new random challenge 2. Browser asks device to sign it 3. User does Face ID / fingerprint / PIN 4. Signed challenge → server 5. Server verifies with the stored public key. User is in. What you give up with passwords: ❌ Phishable — fake domains steal them ❌ Reused across services — one breach cascades ❌ Stored server-side — breach exposes hashes ❌ Forgotten — resets, support tickets ❌ Brute-forceable — rate limits required What you gain with passkeys: ✅ Phishing-proof — cryptographically bound to your exact domain ✅ Not reusable — per-site, per-device credentials ✅ No server secret — only public keys stored ✅ No resets — biometric = always remembered ✅ Replay-proof — sign_count prevents assertion reuse Setup in Laravel 13 — new apps: // config/fortify.php Features::passkeys(), // one line // starter kit scaffolds everything else Setup for existing apps: Spatie’s laravel-passkeys package + `HasPasskeys` trait + PASSKEYS_RELYING_PARTY_ID=yourdomain.com Two honest caveats: ⚠️ Requires HTTPS (localhost is exempt for dev) ⚠️ Device loss = can't log in. @_newtonjob @Mariusz1558693 I guess a good compromise would be `php artisan optimize:clear --except=cache` to still get the benefit from clearing the rest in one command, without actually clearing the cache.

Yeah it makes sense. Wasn't aware that they used cached; always assumed they used another connection. Blindly clearing the cache was a bad idea to begin with (I mean, we use cache for a reason, deploying shouldn't invalidate it), but yes never clearing it can lead to its own loads of issues

Learnt the hard way that `cache:clear` should never be part of your deployment script.

@_newtonjob @Mariusz1558693 Shouldn't all of these systems run on other systems than cache (but still use Redis)? Because I believe not running cache clear can also lead to all sorts of problems too.

@Mariusz1558693 Many things depend on the cache. Rate limiting, atomic locks, schedule tasks mutex, etc. When you clear the cache, you've essentially done a reset on these things, like releasing locks that should still be held, leading to all sorts of problems.

@kepano @obsdmd @kepano it's really nice that claude uses it on its own. Didn't even know there was a CLI for deffudle, so didn't instruct it to use but it's nice that it does 👌🏾

@jeffrey_way @PovilasKorop I would still love to see more/upcoming videos and articles from Laracasts, Laravel Daily, Laravel News, etc, about various coding patterns (like action pattern, DDD, Events, etc) and deep dive into ACTUAL codebases.

@PovilasKorop I think any long form video involving coding by hand is effectively dead at this point.

With AI, devs get quickly addicted to ready-made things. It's affecting my video numbers. Longer videos explaining the PROCESS and the WHY are losing. Shorter videos with ready-made tools/skills/prompts get highest views. Gonna go for a walk to think what to do with it.
