@mathewjschwartz what was so weird about that book is that there was a good, eccentric 400 page spy novel buried in over 1200 pages of nonsense

in the last year I've read 2 big swing Norman Mailer books, the first, Harlot's Ghost, was a huge, messy, swing & miss Executioner's Song was a home run comprehensive (almost exhaustive) lyrical & strange this wd be 2 season true crime podcast today and not nearly as good 👍

There’s something ominous about the speed with which the entire world has marched to require identification on platforms and, as I expected, begin the process of banning anonymous VPNs.

So I hear you say what are you reading on the road? Well I’m re -reading the entire Inspector Duffy series by Adrian McKinty with great relish. He has now replaced my love of Maigret. Sadly I’m on the last. Try them. I think they’re brilliant.

The number of Russian sabotage operations in Europe almost quadrupled from 2023 to 2024. NATO and EU policymakers have highlighted significant ongoing concerns with the resilience of European critical infrastructure (ECI): 🔹There has been a significant lack of investment in ECI in recent decades. 🔹The continued use of old computer systems and out-of-date software in ECI. 🔹A significant portion of critical infrastructure is privately owned or privately operated. 🔹The vulnerability of submarine cables given how reliant the European economy is on them. And, in case you don’t read the paper, the vulnerabilities were patched very shortly after they were found. That’s what happens when researchers and service providers should work together.
Alan Woodward@ProfWoodward

What is encouraging us that @signalapp cooperated with the researchers and hid nothing (including source code) - that is rare a d can only build trust.
