@jacasiegel I was once warned that "there's a lot of math in physics, honey" when I declared my (physics) major. I wish it was the same letter writer, but alas, I am sure it's completely independent. Cool that you're able to pack all of those Big Thoughts into that pretty head of yours, tho.

Thinking about the time a letter of recommendation writer described me as a "beautiful and effervescent cheerleader," which, I'm sure, is similar content to what they wrote for the male students for whom they wrote letters of recommendation.

Sometimes, when I’m feeling like my research doesn’t matter, I read my spam emails. In my spam emails, I am “prominent” and “eminent.” My submissions are urgently needed. I am invited to serve as a keynote speaker at conferences in fields like plant ecology and marine biology.
