@mathsmuse @dare_richard One is more aligned with research and one is more aligned with practice. I weighed both options myself and would be happy to chat in more detail.

EdD or PhD? How do you know which is right for you? (Back here because butterfly land doesn't have polls!)

@mathwithmissnew All our textbooks had names for the same reason. One yr 13 definitely had a weird textbook crush on Ada Lovelace the textbook.

@dare_richard @S_Oberle Thank you. Those are three very key questions I shall consider as I compare. Especially the second. So many only allow domination of this solar system.

@wright_maths Edexcel have so many nice little things. You need to get on the maths emporium and have a look at their practice papers, they have them arranged in all sorts of configurations.

@mathsmuse I need to look at Edexcel in more detail - this could be really useful. Ive been AQA for years so this is all new.

First time using Edexcel for 9-1 exams. I know they have end of unit tests, but are there any end of term test papers? What has everyone else used for their tests?

@dare_richard One of the reasons I love my school: two week half term so no 8 weeker!

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say eight weeks in a half term seems overly long.

@wright_maths Agreed! But Edexcel also produce a Tiering Diagnostic which I find very helpful in making decisions and also in giving the message to parents and students about the final decision - hard to argue with exam board recommendations, easy to argue with the teacher.

@mathsmuse We haven’t got exam wizard, will need to look in to getting it. If only they would bring back intermediate tier!!

@missradders I used to use Dr Frost to create 4 questions HW in addition to textbook etc. They marked answers and then I took in for a brief once over. Stopped as changed school and different circs but it worked well at the time.

I’m looking for suggestions for offline self-mark homework for A Level maths… Anyone have any? RTs appreciated.

@mathsaurus I really like year 9 because they're young enough to still have wonder and be able to get to love maths but old enough to do some of the more interesting maths with.

When I started teaching I only really wanted to teach A-Level Maths and Further Maths. And I still think it’s a really fun stage to teach because: 1. The maths is interesting and you can keep learning whilst teaching. 2. Students have chosen to take the subject and are engaged and interested. 3. Class sizes are smaller and you can generally be a bit more relaxed. But the longer I taught for the more I enjoyed the younger years too. Sure, there’s more behaviour management and the maths is more routine but I ended up loving it because: 1. In these foundational years you can really set students up to learn maths the right way. 2. Using maths challenge and Olympiad questions to enrich the curriculum kept the maths fun and interesting and often made maths their favourite subject. 3. They agreed singing maths songs at the end of the lesson was a suitable reward for good work. Do you have a favourite year group to teach?

Less than a week until we pick up our new kitten.

2 days into actual holiday and I've dug up and re-seeded half my lawn. Plus (fingers crossed) started to process to get a second cat.

@MsT31415 Go teach maths is the one we love. Fairly cheap too. It has that flow plus worksheets.

I really want to purchase a bank of resources for my department to use that are easily accessible, adaptable and follow a I do we do you do, mini whiteboards kind of flow. I feel overwhelmed with the options. Anyone got any recommendations?
